POSITION OBJECTIVE

Part-time Term Employee Position Working under moderate supervision, the Research Assistant will conduct research activities in medical and related technical areas. This position requires the ability to exercise independent judgment and initiative while supporting the daily operations of the Mass Spectrometry Facility within the Department of Pharmacology. The Research Assistant will assist with method development projects, ensure optimal instrument performance, and provide technical support to facility users.

This role is vital to advancing the facility's mass spectrometry capabilities and contributing to high-quality analytical support in a dynamic academic environment through close collaboration with other facility staff.

• Maintain test equipment utilized in experiments. Perform daily calibration, quality checks, and routine maintenance of mass spectrometers to ensure reliable instrument performance. (25%)
• Conduct analysis of samples. Prepare and run samples on mass spectrometry instruments following established protocols. (20%)
• Perform research work in medical and related technical areas involves use of lab skills. Participate in testing and developing new mass spectrometry methods and workflows to improve analytical capabilities. (20%)
• Record results for a particular experiment or closely related series of experiments. Perform preliminary data processing, including basic analyses and quality assessments of experimental outcomes, and document the findings comprehensively. (10%)
• Maintain records of experiments. Ensure that raw mass spectrometry data files and all associated documentation, including descriptions of experimental procedures and sample preparation methods, are properly stored on designated data servers. (10%)
• Train new users on instrument operation, safety procedures, and facility workflows. (10%)

• May assist with data interpretation (2.5%)
• Order laboratory supplies which include but not limited to solvents, buffers and reagents, pipettes, tubes, and PPE supplies. (2.5%)
