breakthrough security guards are responsible for maintaining a safe and orderly environment on school campuses. Guards must exercise good judgment, decision‑making, and consistency of communication with school administration at all times. Guards must demonstrate excellent character and be able to handle sensitive matters as an agent of breakthrough in a professional and confidential manner. The security guard will work during the school year (august through may).
essential functions- monitors assigned areas of buildings and grounds to prevent fire, theft, vandalism, and criminal activity including unauthorized entry onto district property using available technology, and regularly patrols assigned areas. Initiates appropriate action when a threat to the school environment exists.
- monitors entrances to school property and ensures visitors comply with procedures for entering and properly registering their presence. Approaches and questions individuals for proper permits and authorization for use of or presence on school property.
- use of the school visitors system, verifying student contacts, custody issues, secretarial and clerical duties, etc.
- supports in ensuring all alarms are operational.
- provides traffic or crowd control as assigned.
- patrol and secure buildings and grounds as directed, with attention to the prevention of fire, theft, vandalism, and illegal entry.
- conduct walking patrol inspections of buildings, including but not limited to: doors and windows to determine that they are secure.
- confront unauthorized persons for questioning and/or call the police for assistance based on emergency protocols.
- communicate with students and school‑based staff as appropriate regarding safety and security issues.
- prepare written reports of security violations using standardized incident forms.
- provide security for extracurricular activities and school on an as‑needed basis. Events included but not limited to: dances, sporting events, back‑to‑school nights, performances, and graduation.
- ensure that crowds that are attending extra‑curricular and community events are orderly.
- assist building administration in fact‑finding investigations as directed.
- follow school and network policies and administrative rules and regulations.
- other duties as assigned.
- high school diploma or ged equivalent required
- minimum of 1 year of experience in security, law enforcement, or other related fields
- ohio peace officer training certificate preferred
- candidates must have access to reliable transportation as travel to different school campuses to provide security support will be required.
- successfully pass an fbi (federal bureau of investigation) and bci (ohio bureau of criminal identification & investigation) background check
- understanding of basic security operations and applications
- excellent interpersonal and technical support skills.
- excellent organizational skills and attention to detail.
- strong customer service orientation and professionalism
- strong analytical and problem‑solving skills.
- ability to keep information confidential.
- proficient with microsoft office suite and google drive.
- ability to work in a fast‑paced environment, with speed, precision and accuracy
- requires working as part of a group to solve issues and problems.
work may be performed inside or outside of the school facility with exposure to inclement weather and unpredictable crisis situations.
