Responsibilities

The Coordinator - Programs designs, manages, and evaluates programs to promote the health and wellness of the client community and recreation center members and users. Responsibilities include overseeing and staffing fitness and wellness programs and services, youth camps, and urban adventure trips and gear rental. This position will work on‑site at Cleveland State University.

Core Responsibilities
  • Manage and deliver a comprehensive fitness and wellness, urban adventures and camp program
  • Assist in the coordination of purchasing, inventory, and maintenance of fitness equipment as needed
  • With support from the Senior Assistant Director, oversee the youth camp program’s daily logistics, scheduling, billing, customer service, and sales
  • Collaborate with other campus departments to develop, implement, and promote recreational programs and events
  • Responsible for the operating, preparation, forecasting and monitoring of income and expense budgets for program areas
  • Recommend and revise administrative policies and procedures within the areas of responsibility
  • Assess effectiveness and satisfaction of programs and services
  • Prepare and deliver required and requested reports and data to the client and CENTERS central office
  • Participate in CENTERS meetings and trainings, setting CENTERS standards for operation and innovation
  • Build strong partnerships on campus and with vendors
  • Provide direction and oversight in accordance with the mission and goals of the department, division, and university
Staff Supervision
  • Responsible for approving timecards and preparing necessary documents/reports in preparation for payroll
  • Responsible for hiring, supervision, training and mentoring subordinate staff
  • Provide managerial and leadership experiences in program operations and create and promote professional development opportunities
Site‑Specific Responsibilities
  • Connect the urban adventure program to CSU’s “Our City is Our Campus” program
  • Work in collaboration with Conference and Event Services to schedule fitness certifications and workshops through national organizations
Qualifications

Education and Experience
  • Bachelor’s degree or 4 or more years of work experience required
  • At least two years of fitness, wellness, adventure or youth programming experience required
  • Experience working in a collegiate/community recreation environment
  • Past supervisory experience
  • Current national group fitness instructor and/or personal training certification (or willing to obtain) (i.e. ACSM, ACE, NASM, or NSCA)

  • Must be able to work a variety of hours in order to accommodate events
Physical Demands
  • Stationary at desk or table for at least 70% of the work day
  • Working in fitness center environment at least 30% of day
  • Teach fitness class/personal training sessions as required
  • Must be able to traverse throughout buildings and campus. Regularly ascending/descending building levels and occasionally ladders or stools. Must be able to lift, move and set up items weighing as much as 30 lbs. Must be able to discuss, converse with, and exchange accurate information with event patrons, staff, stakeholders, etc.
