Razorsharks Assistant Coach

Responsibilities

• Facilitate all swim team practices and meets
• Maintain data to assess progress of swimmers
• Create and adapt drills and techniques to promote more efficient swim skills
• Consult with supervisor concerning swimmer referrals, as needed
• Design, adapt, or modify practices to meet participants’ needs
• Provide participants with RT resources, supplies, and equipment
• Ensure participants’ safety during practices; follow health and safety policies, anticipate hazards, and take appropriate measures
• Communicate behavioral observations of swimmers to coach
• Encourage participant involvement in recreation opportunities and provide necessary support to facilitate involvement
• Participate in quality improvement projects
• Promote a positive, professional image of Rec2

• Attend and participate in staff meetings and in‑services as assigned
• Develop and promote positive working relationships within Rec2

• Ability to observe participants’ behaviors and assist in de‑escalation as needed
• Fundamental knowledge of swimming strokes and techniques
• Basic knowledge of terminology, diagnoses, issues, and conditions related to participant functioning
• Ability to relate in a warm, caring, and professional manner to participants with multiple needs
• Ability to produce and maintain accurate records and reports
• Ability to plan and lead a variety of swim meets, practices, and sessions
• Ability to observe and document participant progress
• Knowledge of activity modification techniques, accessibility concepts, and assistance techniques that enhance successful consumer participation in RT activities
• Knowledge of RT policies and procedures
• Knowledge of Rec2

• High school diploma
• Experience coaching or participating within a competitive swim program
• Preference: USA Swimming Coaches certification
• Applicants who demonstrate possession of knowledge, skills and abilities gained through at least two years of experience performing tasks similar to those assigned to the position

• CPR certification required
• Employer‑selected insurance for practice
• USA Swimming certification – can be received after beginning with Rec2

• Ability to lift 25 lb and other recreational equipment
• Ability to provide physical prompting when needed for up to 1 hour
• Ability to demonstrate exercise and movements for clients for up to 1 hour
