Job Summary

The Student Success Advisor provides comprehensive academic advising, student support, and strategic problem‑solving to enhance student success, retention, and completion. The role manages a broad caseload, guides students through registration, course selection, and academic planning using Degree Works and Cougar Net, and develops intervention strategies for at‑risk students. The Advisor also serves as the primary financial aid advisor, assists with FAFSA completion and compliance, utilizes data analytics to track enrollment trends, oversees admissions processes, and engages in career community outreach to align academic pathways with high‑demand career fields.

Key Responsibilities
  • Academic Advising & Support (35%)
    • Provide advising support throughout the registration process and ensure students have the resources to navigate course selection and academic requirements.
    • Manage a broad caseload, offering in‑depth academic advising and career counseling to support student success, retention, and completion.
    • Guide students using tools such as Degree Works, Schedule Planner, and Cougar Net, and facilitate advising‑centered workshops and outreach initiatives.
    • Develop and implement targeted intervention strategies for academically at‑risk students, providing tailored referrals to community resources.
    • Organize and participate in enrollment‑related events such as Cougar Days to foster student engagement and retention.
  • Financial Aid Counseling & Compliance (25%)
    • Serve as the primary financial aid advisor for your caseload, providing high‑level counseling on federal, state, and institutional aid programs.
    • Assist students and families with FAFSA completion, verification, appeals, and award processes.
    • Ensure compliance with federal and institutional policies and collaborate with regulatory agencies.
    • Assist with student accounts, billing, and bookstore credit coordination.
  • Student Monitoring, Data Analysis & Enrollment Process (20%)
    • Monitor, track, and analyze data for enrolled students using dashboards and reporting systems to support early intervention and communication.
    • Lead outreach using email, text, social media, and phone to promote enrollment, persistence, and academic success.
    • Oversee admissions, guiding students through program selection, transcript evaluation, and placement testing.
    • Analyze workforce trends and industry projections to align academic programs with career pathways.
  • Career Community & Career Outlook Advising (15%)
    • Utilize labor market data platforms (e.g., Lightcast) to provide real‑time insights and align academic program selection with high‑demand career fields.
    • Conduct career planning sessions that integrate salary expectations, regional job demand, and skill development strategies.
    • Assist in developing institutional reports assessing student career outcomes and program effectiveness.
  • Support / Non‑Essential Functions (5%)
    • Attend all required college functions and serve on various college committees.
    • Participate in outreach activities to support enrollment, retention, and student success initiatives.
    • Stay updated on trends in enrollment management and academic advising through professional development.
    • Perform other duties as assigned.
Minimum Requirements / Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s degree from a regionally accredited college or university.
  • Four years of experience in academic advising, admissions, records, financial aid, counseling, teaching, or related fields.
  • Preferred:
    Community college experience and knowledge of Banner and Banner Document Management System.
Knowledge, Skills & Abilities
  • Strong oral and written communication skills.
  • Independent work with minimal supervision.
  • Effective multitasking and time‑management skills.
  • Capacity to build partnerships and collaborate with college staff and community members.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Word, Excel, and PowerPoint.
