JOB SUMMARY

Instructors provide high quality instruction to foster student learning while maintaining a positive and engaging learning environment in the classroom. The major emphasis for instructors is on teaching and evaluating students in the course. Classes are taught in a variety of formats, including in-person, hybrid, and online and at several locations within the 5-county service area. Instructors also maintain regular communication with students between classes and are responsible for several institutional duties such as committee work, assessment, registration, and advising.

In addition to the instructor responsibilities, the ECED Director leads the NAEYC accreditation reviews, reports, and site visits to ensure compliance and program quality. The director will develop class schedules and oversee faculty recruitment and training. The director will develop and implement marketing strategies while leading student recruitment and academic advising efforts. The director will build and maintain appropriate partnerships with local schools and organizations for field placement and program collaborations.

The director serves as Chair of the ECED Advisory Board to help guide program development.

The ECED Director normally teaches four classes in fall and spring semesters with one class release time and an additional $1500 stipend for the summer semester.

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS / QUALIFICIATIONS

  • Master’s degree in early childhood education or related field from a regionally accredited institution.
  • Minimum of four years of experience teaching and direct supervisory or leadership experience, which should include at least two years in each of the following:
    • Two years’ experience working in the field of Early Childhood Education. This can include, but is not limited to: preschool setting, early childhood facility, prekindergarten setting, elementary setting, early childhood advocacy, early childhood administration, etc.
    • Two years’ experience teaching at the college level in an early childhood program. Experience teaching with alternative delivery instructional modes: face-to-face, hybrid, online, interactive, etc.
  • Demonstrated experience in supervising student field placements, mentoring and advising student teachers, and supporting students across early childhood and education programs in the field experiences and observations.
  • Working knowledge of the NAEYC accreditation process.

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS

Faculty must devote a minimum of 37.5 hours per week to the institution, maintain appropriate office hours, and secure approval for any commitments which might affect employment.
