The Pre-Analytical Assistant I provides essential support within the Technical Operations and Specimen Processing teams. This role handles, prepares, and processes specimens to ensure accuracy, compliance, and timely delivery to laboratory departments in a fast-paced, biohazard laboratory environment. The role supports quality outcomes through precise specimen handling, documentation, and collaboration with cross-functional teams.
Responsibilities- Perform specimen handling tasks including sorting, racking, centrifugation, aliquoting, storage, and delivery to laboratory departments.
- Identify specimen discrepancies such as incorrect types, missing information, or handling issues and escalate appropriately for resolution.
- Demonstrate understanding of compliance policies and test ordering requirements, including use of translation tables and directories of services.
- Accurately complete all required documentation within established time frames.
- Meet quality and productivity standards within 6 months of training completion.
- Support departmental operations during coworker absences and peak workload periods.
- Learn additional functions within Technical Operations to support progression and cross-coverage.
- Develop working knowledge of how Technical Operations and Specimen Processing impact testing quality and results.
- Maintain composure and accuracy while working under pressure in a production environment.
- Adhere to company core values, safety standards, compliance requirements, and work process procedures.
- Maintain a clean and organized work area in compliance with 5S workplace standards.
- Demonstrate flexibility with work assignments, schedule changes, and evolving departmental needs.
- Ability to handle multiple tasks simultaneously in a production setting.
- Strong verbal and written communication skills across all staff levels.
- Ability to sit, stand, or walk for extended periods.
- Ability to lift up to 50 lbs and maneuver large carts and specimen racks.
- Willingness to work in a biohazard environment while following all safety protocols.
- High school diploma or GED
- Medical background with knowledge of medical terminology
- Previous experience in a production or laboratory environment
- Familiarity with mainframe computer systems
