General Summary of Position

Job Summary: Med Star Health is seeking a Respiratory Care Practitioner to join our team at Med Star Southern Maryland Hospital Center. The ideal candidate will be a certified respiratory therapist dedicated to providing exceptional patient care by demonstrating strong knowledge in the field. Respiratory care is ordered by physicians following established standards, practices, and protocols.

As a Respiratory Care Practitioner, you will possess working knowledge of human respiratory anatomy, physiology, and pathology related to respiratory care. You should be familiar with respiratory care equipment and its clinical application, able to assess hazardous conditions, and work effectively with patients of all ages. The ability to remain calm under stress and communicate well with diverse individuals is essential.

Primary Duties:
  • Assess the physical, psychosocial, spiritual, and cultural dimensions of the patient, including educational needs, and document appropriately. Refer to competency validation documents as applicable.

  • Perform all respiratory therapy treatments and services, including oxygen, mixed gases, humidity, ventilators, bronchial hygiene, lung expansion, spirometry, EKG, and blood gas analysis.

  • Employ principles of therapeutic communication, interviewing techniques, problem solving, and crisis intervention during patient care.

  • Respond to and participate in cardiopulmonary resuscitation, maintaining airway, providing oxygen and ventilation, and performing chest compressions as needed.

  • Facilitate workflow efficiency, monitor interdepartmental systems, review electronic medical records and physician orders, and recommend process improvements.

  • Qualifications:
    • Associate degree from an AMA-accredited program in respiratory care (AAS Degree or higher).

    • CRT (Certified Respiratory Therapist) credential from NBRC is required.

    • Basic Life Support (BLS) certification is required.

    • Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS), Neonatal Resuscitation Program (NRP), and Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS) certifications are required within one year of hire.

    • Must be registry eligible; some experience is preferred.

    Preferred Education: Bachelor's degree in a related healthcare field.

    Preferred Certification: RRT (Registered Respiratory Therapist) from the National Board for Respiratory Care.

    This position offers a hiring range of $34.98 - $62.52.
