. Professional care provider who assesses plans, implements, and evaluates the nursing care of patients from admission through discharge. In collaboration with patients, families, and interdisciplinary team members, provides theory‑based professional nursing care and coordinates care delivery to achieve optimal outcomes.

Duties & Responsibilities
  • Contributes to the achievement of established department goals and objectives and adheres to department policies, procedures, quality standards, safety standards, and Med Star SPIRIT Values.
  • Collects and analyzes significant patient information that pertains to physical, psychological, socio‑cultural, economic, spiritual, and lifestyle behaviors, leveraging available technology efficiently.
  • Provides relationship‑based care that promotes a continuous, consistent, efficient, and accountable delivery of nursing care using the nursing process with a focus on patient experience.
  • Identifies current and potential complex problems of specific patient populations, critically analyzing trends and changes in patient status and planning appropriate interventions.
  • Incorporates evidence‑based practice and research into patient care delivery with a focus on quality and safety.
  • Advocates for patients by independently communicating clinical concerns, including ethical decisions, in a timely manner to other members of the interdisciplinary team.
  • Practices within legal boundaries of the Nurse Practice Act and possesses a theoretical understanding of universal ethical principles, recognizing ethical discourse in practice and seeking resources for support and counsel as needed.
  • Individualizes patient plans of care focusing on short‑ and long‑range goals and effectively uses a variety of teaching resources to meet the learning needs of patients and families.
  • Communicates patient information clearly and accurately in verbal and written format.
  • Maintains a safe and therapeutic environment, identifies actual and potential patient safety issues, and acts accordingly while incorporating HRO quality and safety principles.
  • Demonstrates effective leadership behaviors, establishing priorities and delegating tasks to peers and ancillary staff as appropriate to scope of practice and unit requirements.
  • Utilizes problem‑identification and resolution skills to address clinical concerns, following the chain of command and seeking assistance when needed.
  • Evaluates patient response to treatment and progress toward goals, revising nursing interventions as appropriate.
  • Identifies patient and family needs prior to discharge, initiating and monitoring discharge planning activities in collaboration with other team members.
  • Supports and contributes to the unit, department, and organization goals inclusive of mission, vision, and values.
  • Participates in meetings, committees, community outreach, and multidisciplinary quality and service improvement teams.
Minimal Qualifications
  • Associate’s degree from an accredited School of Nursing (required);
    Bachelor’s degree in Nursing preferred.
  • If holding only an associate degree, must enroll in a BSN program within 12 months of hire and complete it within 4 years of hire.
  • 1–2 years of RN experience (required).
  • State licensure or Compact State licensure as a Registered Nurse, or eligibility for a Multistate Compact license.
  • CPR certification (BLS and NRP) from the American Heart Association or American Red Cross within 90 days of hire.
  • Additional unit/specialty certifications may vary by department.
  • For Perinatal Nurses, C‑EFM certification from the National Certification Corporation, required within 12 months from hire (new graduates may have 15 months).
  • Computer skills, basic math skills, and strong verbal and written communication skills.

Salary: USD $37.50 - $54.92 per hour.
