Patient Care Technician I
Exemption Status:
Non-Exempt
Hiring Range: $15.00 - $24.49
Schedule:
Holidays – Every Other Holiday, Monday through Friday;
Weekends – Every Other Weekend
Shift: (Night Shift, 8 Hours)
Hours:
24 per week
Signed on Bonus: $3,000.00 Sign‑on Bonus!
- Clear, timely communication to RN regarding patient observations and changes.
- Constant observation of high‑risk patients as assigned.
- Maintain a safe environment, using interventions to de‑escalate patients and, if necessary, participating in restraints as trained.
- Assist patients with daily living activities such as personal hygiene, ambulation, meals and nourishment.
- Move, lift, position and transport patients using proper safety techniques and body mechanics.
- Perform patient safety checks, fall‑prevention measures and follow Restraint Policy standards for restrained patients.
- Take and record vital signs, temperatures, pulse, respiration, blood pressure and pulse oxymetry; measure and record weight and height.
- Perform EKGs, point‑of‑care tests and bladder scanning; collect, label and prepare specimens for laboratory transport.
- Perform unit‑specific procedures such as battery changes for telemetry units, equipment checks, cleaning and proper storage of supplies.
- Assist RN/Licensed Independent Practitioner with treatments and procedures, including positioning patients, providing emotional support and cleaning equipment.
- Observe, measure and record oral food and fluid intake; refill tube‑feeding bags and handle output from catheter or ostomy appliances; perform ostomy care as directed.
- Demonstrate sensitivity and responsiveness to patients’ needs, offering a source of information and building positive rapport.
- Provide respectful, culturally and age‑appropriate communication with patients, staff, family and visitors.
- Replenish patient and unit supplies and equipment as needed.
- Request assistance from designated resources when additional direction is required.
- Keep current with hospital and unit changes by reading communication boards, bulletin boards and responding to UMMHC e‑mails regularly.
- Minimum of a high school education or GED.
- Basic Life Support certification within 30 days of employment.
- Ability to read, write and communicate in English clearly and concisely.
- Basic computer skills.
- Basic medical terminology knowledge.
- Remain calm under stress or emergency situations.
- Equivalent combination of education and experience may substitute the above requirements.
Under the direction of the appropriate licensed clinician, in keeping with unit‑specific standards, provides patient care to meet the personal needs and comfort of patients and assists members of the healthcare team. The PCT II must meet the full competencies outlined by the Nursing Professional Practice.

- Perform unit‑specific procedures such as battery changes for telemetry units, equipment checks, cleaning and proper storage of supplies.
- Assist RN/Licensed Independent Practitioner with treatments and procedures, including preparing patients, setting up equipment and supplies, performing sterile technique when indicated, positioning patients, providing emotional support and cleaning equipment.
