On June 1, 2026, the institution’s name was changed from Mississippi College to Mississippi Christian University, while also retaining the shortened “MC.” The institution's new name reflects its Mississippi roots, Christian mission, and university status.

Founded in 1826, MC is the oldest institution of higher learning in Mississippi. Affiliated with the Mississippi Baptist Convention, MC is a comprehensive Christian university recognized for academic excellence and commitment to the cause of Christ. Offering undergraduate, graduate, and professional programs, the University prepares students to lead lives of purpose and service.

For the second year in a row, the Wall Street Journal/College Pulse named MC to its list of 2026 Best Colleges in the U.S., and in fall 2026, MC was the highest-ranked private university in U.S. News & World Report’s list of Best National Universities. The University was also named to the 2025 and 2026 Phi Theta Kappa Honor Society’s Transfer Honor Roll.

MC is also in the top 8% of Christian Colleges in America and the No. 1 college in Mississippi for Academics (Niche, 2026).

Graduate and professional schools include the MC School of Law in Jackson, the state’s first master’s degree in physician assistant studies, and more than 60 other exemplary graduate programs. The University continually seeks the highest academic standards, and many programs are accredited by external independent accrediting organizations. MC is in good standing with its regional accreditor and has been since its initial accreditation in 1922.

Schools comprising the core of MC include Business;
Christian Studies, Humanities, and the Arts;

Throughout 2026, MC is celebrating its bicentennial, looking back over 200 years of connecting faith and education, and looking forward to a new century of empowering students to impact theworld. MC is the first institution of higher learning in Mississippi to reach a 200 year anniversary.

The University’s global outreach includes a wide range of study abroad opportunities for both undergraduate and graduate students. MC’s endowment exceeds $105 million, and the University employs more than 500 people.
