POSITION SUMMARY:Under the direction of the Program Coordinator and consistent with the Christian mission, Teachers will work directly with an assigned group of school-age students to provide a safe, responsible, well-supervised program while acting as a positive adult role model and mentor. Sunset Avenue Elementary School YMCA 21st Century Program will give students additional educational support beyond the school day. Teachers will work with students in small group settings or individual settings.
Since students learn in unique ways, our teachers will be responsible for ensuring that the educational approach is personalized, targeted, and consistent. To serve students effectively, teachers must be able to tap into what motivates each individual student and adjust their approach accordingly.

The Tutor will be responsible for the following
- Implementing Educational
Activities:
Develop and implement engaging, academic enrichment activities that promote 21st Century skills. - Classroom Management:
Manage student behavior and foster a positive, inclusive classroom environment. - Student Support:
Provide individual support to students based on their academic and social needs, including assisting with homework and offering additional help in areas of struggle. - Collaboration with Stakeholders:
Work with school staff, community partners, and parents to coordinate activities and ensure student success. - Technology Integration:
Use educational software and online platforms to enhance student learning and engagement. - Organizing and Leading
Activities:
Plan and organize extracurricular activities that promote personal development, such as leadership exercises or team-building games. - Data Collection & Reporting:
Track and report student progress, attendance, and behavioral concerns to parents and school administration
Staff represents the YMCA in a professional, courteous, friendly, and helpful manner to members and prospective members. The teacher will have a direct effect on the end result and delivery of childcare operations by ensuring all children in the program are safe and actively engaged.
RequirementsQUALIFICATIONS:
Staff must have the competencies, skills, and proven leadership ability to successfully carry out the YMCA mission, goals, and vision for serving the community.
- Must be at least 18 years of age.
- Must have High School Diploma. Bachelors degree preferred in Education.
- Availability Monday-Thursday, 2:30pm-6pm
- Educational Knowledge Understanding of child development, academic enrichment, and 21st Century learning skills.
- Instructional Skills Ability to deliver engaging, differentiated lessons, and activities.
- Classroom Management Ability to maintain a positive learning environment.
- Collaboration & Communication Strong communication skills for working with students, parents, and colleagues.
- Technology Integration Proficiency with educational technology tools.
- Cultural Competence Awareness of and sensitivity to diverse student populations.
- Problem-Solving & Adaptability Critical thinking skills to navigate challenges.
Staff must represent the organization in a professional image. He/she must be able to maneuver the grounds and facilities freely and be capable of speaking clearly, including, but not limited to: walking, stooping, carrying a minimum of 50 lbs., sitting, standing, pushing, climbing, kneeling, lifting a minimum of 50 lbs., and crouching.
