Duties- Provide comprehensive, patient-centered medical care including evaluation, diagnosis, treatment, and management of acute, chronic, and preventive health needs within the specialty.
- Collaborate with interdisciplinary healthcare teams to ensure safe, effective, and coordinated care.
- Perform specialty-specific diagnostic, therapeutic, and/or surgical procedures consistent with training and credentialing.
- Contribute to teaching, mentorship, and professional development of medical staff, students, and trainees.
- Participate in quality improvement, patient safety, and clinical innovation initiatives to advance healthcare delivery.
- Conditions of employment:
Board Certification in the specialty of the position applied for, or verification of active pursuit to become board certified with an American Board of Medical Specialties (ABMS) member board if there is a lapse in board certification. - This is a designated position under Public Law 101-630, requiring contact or control over Indian children; staff must meet background/eligibility requirements as specified.
- Employee health policies may apply (Measles, Rubella, influenza) for certain selectees; vaccine exemptions may be available per guidance.
- Obtain and maintain medical staff clinical privileges and licensure requirements; failure to obtain/maintain privileges may result in adverse actions, up to removal from Federal service.
- Successfully pass the E-Verify employment verification check.
If selected, you must undergo a pre-employment fingerprint check and background investigation. Continued employment depends on a satisfactory background investigation outcome. False statements may lead to non-employment or termination.
QualificationsTo qualify, your resume must demonstrate sufficient experience and/or education to perform the duties of the position. Experience includes paid, unpaid, volunteer service, and other relevant activities. You must clearly identify duties and hours per week for each position.
The Hiring Manager/Selecting Official may allow applicants completing professional training within 9 months to be tentatively qualified.
Basic Requirement(s)Degree: Doctor of Medicine (MD), Doctor of Osteopathic Medicine (DO) or equivalent, from an accredited school in the United States or Canada. Accreditation must be recognized by the relevant U.S. bodies at the time of degree.
Degree from Foreign Medical School: If applicable, evidence of equivalency to U.S. standards is required (e.g., ECFMG certification or other recognized pathways).
Licensure: Current, active, full, and unrestricted medical license/registration in a U.S. state, D.C., Puerto Rico, or a U.S. territory.
Graduate Training: At least 1 year of supervised clinical experience post-degree (internship or first-year residency). Programs may include internship, residency, or fellowship as described by accrediting bodies in the U.S. or Canada.
- An internship provides broad clinical practice under supervision.
- A residency provides specialized field training in an accredited program.
- A fellowship provides advanced training post-residency.
Selective Factor (SF): Board Certification in the specialty, or recent completion of an accredited residency with evidence of active pursuit of board certification, or equivalent criteria as defined. Applicants must meet all qualification requirements within 30 days of the closing date.
Education: Submit transcripts or course listings; unofficial transcripts accepted with offer. Accredited institutions only.
