Responsibilities
  • Direct and safely supervise the youth in our care.
  • Provide guidance in behavior choices by teaching social, self-help, academic and living skills.
  • Ensure the safety and supervision of all youth in accordance with operational and contractual requirements.
  • Serve as advisor and positive role model for youth in the program.
  • Prevent and intervene in youth altercations and incidents using authorized state-mandated training methods.
  • Effectively use the Behavior Modification System by providing redirection and coaching to youth.
  • Coach and advise youth to foster growth in personal responsibility, social skills, community living skills, interpersonal communications, and behavior.
  • When on overnight shift: supervise youth during quiet and sleeping hours, conduct bed checks, and complete required shift documentation.
  • Implement AMIkids Way (Kids First, Safety, and Family) and key elements of Positive Youth Development (Relationships, Meaningful Participation, Community Involvement, and Challenged & Engaged Programming) and the AMIkids Personal Growth Model (PGM) in all interactions with students.
  • Maintain an environment that reflects Kids First, Safety, Family, Relationships, Meaningful Participation, Challenge and Engaged environment and Community Involvement.
  • Maintain a physically/emotionally safe space for youth and support progress toward individualized goals.
  • Notify management immediately of problems or incidents and communicate necessary information to the team and supervisors.
  • Complete incident, accident, and behavioral reports per standard operating procedures; document and review notes in Shift Log; communicate information timely to team members and during shift changes.
  • Ensure facility, equipment and supplies comply with laws, regulations and policies; teach youth how to maintain equipment within compliance standards; maintain repair and maintenance logs and related inventory.
  • Attend and maintain CPR and First Aid certification; administer first aid during emergencies per National standards.
  • Attend and maintain crisis intervention and physical restraint training/certification as defined by state and contract requirements.
  • Assist with day trips and special activities, outdoor tasks, and equipment maintenance; transport students as needed for work-related tasks.
  • Assist with special projects and other duties as assigned.
Minimum Education , Training and Experience
  • High school diploma/GED (degree preferred).
  • Minimum one-year related experience within an educational or youth service program, preferably working with troubled youth.
