Overview

Job Title: Parks Maintenance
Department: Parks and Recreation
Reports To: Parks Manager
Job Type: Full-time, Non-Exempt (Hourly)
Pay: $20.34-$38.84 per hour
Hours: 40 hours per week (Typically 7am-3:30pm)

General Purpose

This position is responsible for performing a variety of entry-level duties related to the construction, installation, maintenance, upkeep and repair of buildings, park and recreation facilities, including parks and grounds.

Duties and Responsibilities
  • Performs routine parks and recreation facilities maintenance.
  • Performs general landscape and gardening tasks, including but not limited to: assisting in the installation of irrigation systems and repairs, operating turf maintenance equipment, pruning trees, shrubs and plants, applying fertilization/herbicide, using dry and liquid chemicals; winterizing irrigation systems and various park and recreation facilities/amenities.
  • Maintenance of all park's and recreation equipment and machines.
  • Ability to mark, dig and backfill burials in the cemetery.
  • Perform "On Call" duties, periodically throughout the year, which includes: working as necessary on weekends, holidays and after-hours.
  • Maintains a productive working environment, including but not limited to: a spirit of cooperation with co-workers, peers and the public.
  • Other duties as assigned by the Parks Manager or Parks and Recreation Director.
Required Knowledge,

Skills and Abilities
  • Knowledge of machines and tools, including their uses, repair and maintenance
  • Knowledge of safety procedures
  • Skilled in handling multiple projects with interruptions
  • Skilled in prioritizing and organizing workload to meet deadlines
  • Skilled in watching indicators to make sure a machine is working properly
  • Ability to receive and follow instructions
  • Ability to lift and move 50-75 pounds
Supervision
  • Supervision Received
    :
    Works under the immediate supervision of the Parks Manager and the general supervision of the Parks and Recreation Director.
  • Supervision Exercised
    :
    Provide general supervision to the various part-time, seasonal and volunteer personnel.
Minimum Qualifications
  • Must be eighteen (18) years of age or older
  • Must possess a valid Utah Driver's License and meet the requirements of the City's Motor Vehicle policy.
  • Must have a High School Diploma or GED
  • Must have one (1) year of related experience or an equivalent combination of education and experience
  • Must obtain an Off Highway Certification within 30 days of hire
  • Must pass a pre-employment drug test following a conditional offer of employment.
  • Must pass a pre-employment background check.
Certifications
  • Certification as a:
    Certified Playground Safety Inspector (CPSI), Arborist, Licensed Non-Commercial Pesticide Applicator and CDL with the State of Utah is preferred.
