Description:

In alignment with Mercy One’s Mission, Vision, and Values, this role supports the Vice President of Rural Hospitals and Regional Operations in providing executive leadership and operational oversight for Mercy One’s network of rural hospitals (8 owned and 19 managed) and associated services. The position contributes to strategic planning, performance improvement, program development, and operational excellence across Mercy One’s statewide rural health system.

ESSENTIAL

FUNCTIONS

Knows, understands, incorporates, and demonstrates the Trinity Health and Mercy One Mission, Vision, and Values in behaviors, practices, and decisions. Works as part of the rural hospital leadership team to support the implementation of system initiatives, achieve operational targets, and advance strategic goals across the health system. Partners with the VP of Rural Hospitals & Regional Operations to support the operations of formally affiliated community hospitals, ensuring effective performance and achievement of operating targets.

Maintains effective relationships with key stakeholders, including community hospital executives, Board members, medical staff, physicians, community groups, and hospital associations, to facilitate alignment with Mercy One goals and initiatives. Supports designated services or aspects of operations for rural hospitals with formal relationships with Mercy One, as assigned. Serves as the Mercy One representative and Board Liaison for several affiliated rural hospital Boards, as outlined in the Mercy One Management Services Agreements.

Supports the expansion of tele‑health services across Mercy One by leveraging new technology and improved connectivity to enhance access, strengthen provider‑to‑patient connections, and improve care delivery in regional settings. Works to align physicians with Mercy One and expand specialist presence in community markets to meet local needs. Facilitates business development and community relationship efforts in selected markets and coordinates Mercy One’s regional outreach initiatives to broaden access to primary and specialty care services.

Supports effective management reporting systems that provide timely and relevant information for assigned functions and fosters strong inter‑departmental communication and cooperation. Other duties as needed and assigned. Maintains a working knowledge of applicable Federal, State, and local laws and regulations, Trinity Health’s Organizational Integrity Program, Standards of Conduct, as well as other Trinity Health and Mercy One policies and procedures in order to ensure adherence in a manner that reflects honest, ethical, and professional behavior.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Master’s degree in Healthcare Administration or Business Administration, with a minimum of five years of experience in hospital or health system operations management; rural healthcare experience preferred. Proven ability to work with a broad range of stakeholders, including physicians, governing boards, and state and regional agencies, along with experience navigating operations within a complex, integrated system.
