The successful candidate will join a department dedicated to providing services responsive to the students it serves.
Responsibilities- Apply an equity‑minded framework and ensure services and processes are designed and delivered to meet the diverse needs of the specialized population of students;
- Coordinate and provide liaison services with high‑school special education case managers and related staff/faculty, college instructors, counselors, staff, and community partners such as California Department of Rehabilitation to assist students in accessing appropriate accommodations and resources;
- Work assignments in various settings and times, including evenings and/or weekends, online or off‑campus. Feeder high‑school visits are an integral part of the job duties;
- Act as an advocate for students with disabilities to facilitate equitable access to students transitioning into the community college;
- Verify disability documentation, conduct interactive discussions, identify educational limitations, and arrange for appropriate and reasonable accommodations which address those limitations;
- Develop/revise Academic Accommodation Plans (AAPs) and Student Educational Plans (SEPs) for students with disabilities;
- Provide specialized academic, career, personal, and disability‑management counseling to students with disabilities from diverse backgrounds;
- Facilitate/co‑coordinate accommodations such as testing accommodations, note‑taking, alternate media, adaptive equipment, American Sign Language (ASL) interpreting, etc.;
- Collaborate with others to plan and provide students with support in navigating the college processes related to enrollment, matriculation and onboarding;
- Utilize multiple measures to determine appropriate class placement;
- Monitor and track students’ academic performance and progress in degree objectives to assure effective use of services and successful attainment of program objectives;
- Demonstrate effective use of college applications (Starfish, Colleague, Student Aid Report (SARS), Accessible Information Management (AIM), Assist.org, Cal State Apply, etc.);
- Maintain confidential records; accurately record and complete data entry of information needed to complete mandated reports and service records;
- Participate in program development and review, unit and student learning outcome development and review, grants, and other reports as directed;
- Serve on and attend department, college and district committees as needed;
