Essential Functions

Providing instruction in History on the Clovis Community College campus and/or at off‑site community campus locations, the instructor will be responsible for:

  • Teaching introductory survey courses in United States History, World Civilizations, Western Civilizations, and regional survey courses such as Africa or Asia, and other courses as needed;
  • Serving on and attending department, college, and district committees as needed;
  • Participating in program development and expansion of history courses, including industry and career connections and Guided Pathways;
  • Participating in program review, student learning outcome development and assessment to improve student learning;
  • Teaching assignments in a variety of instructional settings and times, including evening and/or weekends, online or off‑campus and large‑group instruction classes as needed;
  • Identifying and recommending potential adjunct faculty to teach classes;
  • Evaluating adjunct instructors;
  • Otherwise fulfilling all of the duties and responsibilities of instructors as required by Administrative Regulation 7122.
Minimum Qualifications

All candidates must have evidence of responsiveness to and understanding of the diverse academic, socioeconomic, cultural, disability, gender identity, sexual orientation, and ethnic backgrounds of community college students, as these factors relate to the need for equity‑minded practice within the classroom.

  • Bachelor’s in History AND a Master’s in Political Science, Humanities, Geography, Area Studies, Women’s Studies, Social Science, or Ethnic Studies;
  • OR A valid California Community College Credential;
  • OR The equivalent education and/or experience (requires an equivalency).

Desirable Qualifications
  • Experience and skill incorporating elements of diversity, equity, and inclusion into all areas of responsibility;
  • Recent experience working with African American, Asian/Pacific Islander, Latinx, Native American, and other racially minoritized students in the classroom and an understanding of how historical patterns of exclusion shape participation and outcomes;
  • Willingness to examine and remediate one’s instructional, relational, and classroom practices to more effectively engage and support racially minoritized students;
  • Related work and professional experience;
  • Experience working with students of various cultural, gender, age, socioeconomic, and ethnic backgrounds, including disabled students;
  • Experience teaching United States History, World Civilizations and Western Civilizations courses at the Community College or University level;
  • Experience teaching Asia or Africa survey courses;
  • Ability to develop and teach lower‑division regional surveys and non‑Western history (outside of the United States and Europe) as part of our growing Associate Degree for Transfer;
