* Job Summary:
** The
** Diesel Mechanic
** is responsible for performing maintenance, inspections, and repairs on company-owned diesel trucks and tanker trailers to ensure safe and efficient operation. This position requires expertise in diagnosing mechanical and electrical issues, performing preventative maintenance, and ensuring compliance with DOT and company safety standards.

* Essential Job Functions:
**** Diagnostics & Repairs
*** Inspect, diagnose, and repair diesel engines, transmissions, brakes, and electrical systems.
* Troubleshoot and fix mechanical issues with fleet vehicles, including tractors and tanker trailers.
* Conduct repairs on fuel, air, hydraulic, and cooling systems as needed.
* Utilize diagnostic software and tools to identify performance issues and faults.
** Preventative Maintenance
*** Perform scheduled maintenance on trucks and trailers, including oil changes, tire rotations, and fluid checks.
* Inspect and service braking systems, suspension components, and drive trains.
* Ensure all vehicles meet DOT compliance and safety standards.
* Maintain accurate records of all maintenance and repair work performed.
** Emergency Repairs & Road Calls
*** Respond to breakdowns and perform on-site repairs when necessary.
* Troubleshoot roadside issues and coordinate with dispatch and drivers for solutions.
* Work efficiently under pressure to minimize downtime and keep trucks operational.
** Parts & Inventory Management
*** Identify and order necessary parts for repairs and maintenance.
* Maintain proper inventory levels and ensure shop tools and equipment are in working condition.
* Assist in tracking maintenance costs and documenting work performed in fleet management systems.
** Safety & Compliance
*** Follow all company safety policies and OSHA guidelines.
* Ensure compliance with DOT regulations and Indian River Transport’s maintenance standards.
* Maintain a clean and organized work environment.
* Participate in regular safety meetings and training sessions.

* Qualifications & Skills:

* Experience:
** Minimum 2 years of diesel mechanic experience (tanker fleet experience preferred).
* *
* Certifications:
** ASE certification or technical school training preferred.
* ** Knowledge:
** Strong understanding of diesel engines, electrical systems, and diagnostics.
* *
* Skills:
** Ability to troubleshoot and repair mechanical issues independently.
* ** Tools:
** Must provide own set of basic mechanic tools; company provides specialized tools.
* ** License:
** CDL is a plus but not required.
** Work Environment &
Physical Requirements:
*** Must be able to lift up to 75 lbs.
* Frequent standing, bending, kneeling, and working in confined spaces.
* Exposure to noise, grease, diesel fuel, and various weather conditions.
* Ability to work in a fast-paced, team-oriented environment.
