Under the supervision of the Deputy Chief, the primary responsibility of the Maintenance Supervisor is to coordinate and schedule maintenance for all units, vehicles and equipment is the Clovis Fire Department. The Maintenance Supervisor will respond to emergency incidents as requested.
** This position has been classified as a safety sensitive position and is subject to our drug testing policy to include pre-employment, random, reasonable suspicion and post-accident for the following prohibited substances: marijuana, amphetamines, opioids, phencyclidine (PCP), and cocaine, as well as any drug not approved for medical use by the U.S. Drug Enforcement Administration or the U.S. Food and Drug Administration.**
Typical Duties
- Coordinate, plan and organize the scheduling of preventative maintenance and repairs of the Clovis Fire Department fleet and equipment. Prioritizes immediate work requisitions, vehicle safety recalls and preventative maintenance such as oil changes, filters, fuels, grease/lubrication, and replacement of parts.
Collaborates with the Fire Chief, Deputy, Fire Battalion Chief(s) and the EMS Battalion Chief in prioritizing the apparatus repair/maintenance needs of the Department. - When called upon to respond to emergency scenes, the Maintenance Supervisor will assist command personnel as needed. Makes emergency service calls for disabled vehicles and equipment at work sites or on the road as needed to perform on-site diagnosis and minor repairs.
- Operate emergency response vehicles in compliance with applicable federal, state, and local regulations.
Enforces work safety practices and proper use of Personal Protective Equipment (PPE). Has the ability to use tools in a recognized safe manner. Recommends and implements corrective actions when necessary. Utilizes safety practices and procedures following established safety rules and regulations and maintains a safe and clean work environment. Observes standard safety rules and regulations and reports unsafe conditions. Responsible for handling and disposition of hazardous waste. - Performs initial inspection of equipment to determine type and extent of repair needed, and repairs equipment. Troubleshoots hard-to-locate problems, and identifies defects and causes of mechanical problems to determine type and extent of necessary repairs to a variety of heavy mobile vehicles and equipment. Conducts functional and performance tests using a wide variety of test procedures and equipment on completed work assignments.
Uses a wide variety of test procedures (including test drives) and a variety of diagnostic and test equipment in tracing hard-to-locate problems, and completes major repairs, overhauls, and modifications with little or no technical advice. - Repairs, overhauls, and rebuilds a variety of emergency response vehicles, to include their major systems i.e., diesel, multi-fuel, and gasoline engines (including supercharged and turbocharged), automatic/manual transmissions, multi-gear assemblies, and a variety of positioning systems. Overhauls steering, brakes, clutch, suspension, and hydraulic utility systems, transfer cases, power take-off, etc. Repairs or replaces defective parts such as seals, bearings and gears, as necessary.
Coordinates all major overhaul duties and maintains oversite of the work performed by contractors and vendors. Oversees major repairs of differentials, transmissions, clutches, electrical systems, drive trains, brake system rebuilds, suspension, hydraulic systems, etc. - Inspects and conducts preventive maintenance practices involved with an emergency response vehicle chassis and inter-related systems such as axles, engines, transmissions, drive lines, brakes, steering and suspension systems, and wheels and tires.
- Inspects and conducts preventive maintenance practices of cabs (fixed and tilt) and the vehicle body, including compartments, warning systems, mounting racks, brackets, latches, and steps and ladders are verified to be within manufacturer's specifications.
- Inspects water/foam agent tanks, so that the mounting and condition of the water/foam agent tank is verified; all coated and non-coated surfaces are free of corrosion; sacrificial anodes are evaluated for life-cycle condition and replaced if necessary; the tank is flushed.
- Inspects the foam-proportioning system, so that the mounting security and structural integrity are verified; operation and condition of the system are verified to be within manufacturer's specifications; recommended fluid levels are verified. Perform maintenance on a foam-proportioning system, so that deformed, broken, loose, worn, or missing parts are repaired or replaced; the system operates within manufacturer's guidelines; fluid levels are maintained;
