Team

The Engineering team discovers, develops, and evaluates new product ideas, enhancements, or strategic product extensions, and translates research discoveries into usable and marketable products. It leads, plans, and tracks all phases of the product life cycle, from inception to introduction into the marketplace. The team coordinates with various functions to ensure successful product development and implementation.

Role Summary

Whirlpool is looking for an experienced Mechanical Engineer/Project Manager with a strong background in project management to support our manufacturing operations. As part of the Clyde Manufacturing Engineering Team, the successful candidate will work closely with NAR and support Clyde and Fall River manufacturing locations, E&T, Advanced Manufacturing, and our new product organization to define, coordinate, and manage the acquisition of the necessary capital equipment for new products at selected manufacturing locations.

The role will cover coveted brands such as Whirlpool, Amana, Estate, Kitchen Aid, and Maytag, and will be at the forefront of developing new laundry products by providing manufacturing early‑design consultation services, determining impacts on existing manufacturing footprints, and establishing early capital budget estimates. The candidate will also be accountable for achieving the annual P4G and RTB goals.

Responsibilities
  • Accountable for acquiring and managing associated capital equipment for new products from conception through formal production handoff at the selected manufacturing location.
  • Support new product integration by providing manufacturing expertise to all key functions.
  • Work closely with primary NAR, Clyde, and Fall River manufacturing locations to define capital purchases.
  • Specify, implement, and hand off new equipment to manufacturing operations.
  • Improve speed in delivering winning products to the marketplace.
  • Ensure new manufacturing processes are flexible in design to accommodate long‑range new‑product cadence plans and minimize future capital requirements.
  • Collaborate with the Advanced Manufacturing Group to ensure new processes comply with the Global Bill of Processes.
  • Lead projects and special assignments as required.
  • Support WCM methodologies and integration of new equipment/processes.
  • Support manufacturing by ensuring proper design for cost and maintainability.
  • Assume various project‑management roles on projects as assigned or required.
Minimum Requirements
  • Bachelor's Degree in an engineering discipline.
  • 5+ years of manufacturing engineering experience.
  • Experience in project management.
Preferred Skills and Experiences
  • Experience acquiring and installing assets associated with mega projects.
  • In‑depth knowledge of laundry appliance fabrication, tooling, and related manufacturing processes such as complex fabrication lines/cells that contain forming, piercing, bending, welding, robotics, etc.
  • Experience in analytical and problem‑solving.
  • Operations process development and implementation experience.
  • Understanding of Lean Manufacturing concepts.
  • Interpersonal and team‑building skills, with the ability to work in a team environment.
  • Project management skills.
  • Ability to translate component GD&T into equipment designs so that critical interfaces are assured.
  • Demonstrated history of gathering input from key stakeholders and gaining their buy‑in.
  • Demonstrated success in translating technical concepts to commonly used business language.
  • Experience working in a heavily automated production environment (desired).
