OverviewThis is an exciting opportunity to join the Sustainability Team at NHS Golden Jubilee University National Hospital (GJUNH) on a permanent basis. The role will be the Designated Officer for Waste Management, the professional lead responsible for ensuring board‑wide compliance with waste legislation and best practice, and for contributing to NHS Scotland’s waste and circular economy initiatives.
Responsibilities- Ensure expenditure is within budget and all services comply with relevant policies, procedures, legal and Health & Safety requirements.
- Manage and develop a waste management strategy, including policies and procedures for clinical and non‑clinical departments, ensuring an efficient and cost‑effective service that complies with statutory requirements and good industry practice.
- Lead procurement of all waste contracts to ensure compliant expenditure and a cost‑efficient delivery of service, monitoring performance against key performance indicators.
- Act as the professional source of advice and support to all staff, delivering waste training and engagement activities.
- Serve as the waste management lead advisor for innovation or similar projects, representing NHS Golden Jubilee at the national level and communicating with other NHS Boards, external agencies and Scottish Government.
- Use initiative to manage workload while regularly adapting to fast‑paced environment changes.
