Classified Range 46 Hiring Range: $50,462 - $53,536 per year Full Range: $50,462 - $65,842 per year

Schedule: Monday - Thursday: 11:00am - 8:00pm Friday: 8:00am - 5:00pm 40 hours per week/10 months per year (Off June and July)

Summary

Provides technical and instructional assistance to students involved in career technical disciplines including Diesel Technology, Heating, Ventilation, and Air Conditioning, Heavy Equipment, and Agricultural Sciences. To include laboratory settings designed to further student’s knowledge. Sets up, demonstrates, oversees, tests, or simulates situations to support learning in compliance with student lab requirements.

The Instructional Lab Technician supports instruction in the classroom as well as scheduled classroom and supplemental labs.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities
  • Works with students individually and in class‑size groups to enhance their learning. Provides direct assistance in using equipment and materials needed for instruction, as well as orienting students to the laboratory.
  • Works with faculty/instructional administrator to design, construct, modify, fabricate, or rebuild equipment, modules, experiments/projects that will be used in the classrooms/laboratories in a division comprised of various related but different subject areas. To assist the instructor in delivering desired instructional outcomes.
  • Provides technical assistance to students, faculty, and staff. Troubleshoots and diagnoses problems with equipment; may assist in setting up laboratory projects, experiences, or assignments as directed by faculty/instructional administrator.
  • Assists instructors in the classroom/laboratory concurrently with lecture or discussion. May perform more hazardous and/or complex procedures for students.
  • Receives study and simulation modules from faculty members, then facilitates discussion and/or lab work with small groups of students participating in the exercises.
  • Administers learning simulations, and proctors tests and/or quizzes to students as provided by instructors in classroom or laboratory environment. Assists instructors by proctoring make‑up tests.
  • Works with faculty/instructional administrator to acquire, maintain, and inventory equipment, materials, and supplies, including—but not limited to—chemicals, reagents, fuels, apparatus, etc., and written materials required for student instructional needs.
  • Works with faculty/instructional administrator to make repairs to equipment and learning assistance devices. Checks out and maintains inventory of tools, equipment, supplies, and materials used by students. Maintaining contact with appropriate vendors may be required.
  • Maintains records of laboratory activity, including typing forms or inputting data or otherwise retaining information regarding the acquisition, maintenance, and distribution of tools, equipment, materials, supplies, and/or written materials.
  • May be required to maintain up‑to‑date documentation of SDS sheets, hazardous materials, substances, and chemicals.
  • Provides for the general cleanliness and security of the laboratory or shop work area. Handles and disposes of harmful or hazardous materials according to specific instructions relating to their disposal. Participates in providing a safe environment for the conduct of the laboratory. Reports maintenance problems as they occur.
  • Oversees the work of student helpers under the guidance of faculty/instructional administrator. Coordinates their activities in support of the instructional goals. Trains student helpers in appropriate technical aspects of their work. May maintain records for pay purposes.
  • Assists with the budgeting process by researching and assembling pertinent historic information and projections. Administers approved budgets.
  • Performs other duties as assigned that support the overall objective of the position.
