Electrical Test & Commissioning Engineer

Location:

Coalville, Leicestershire

Contract Length: 3-6 Months (Potential Extension)

Rate: £400-£450 per day/night Outside IR35

Start Date:

August

Shift Pattern: 7am to 5pm and the odd Night Shift

The Opportunity

We are currently recruiting experienced Electrical Test & Commissioning Engineers to support a major warehouse automation project in Coalville, Leicestershire. Working on behalf of a global leader in automated material handling and intralogistics solutions, you will play a key role in the testing, commissioning, and final delivery of a state‑of‑the‑art automated distribution centre for one of the UK's largest retailers. This is an excellent opportunity to join a long‑term automation project involving advanced conveyor systems, automated storage and retrieval systems (ASRS), robotics, controls systems, and warehouse software integration.

Key Responsibilities
  • Carry out electrical testing and commissioning activities on automated material handling equipment.
  • Perform system validation, functional testing, and fault‑finding activities.
  • Support Site Acceptance Testing (SAT) and performance testing.
  • Test and commission conveyors, sortation systems, cranes, shuttles, and associated controls equipment.
  • Diagnose and resolve electrical and controls‑related issues.
  • Work closely with PLC Engineers, Controls Engineers, Software Engineers, and Project Teams.
  • Record test results, defects, and commissioning progress.
  • Support and oversee integration testing between PLC, SCADA, WCS, and WMS systems.
  • Ensure all work is completed safely and in accordance with site procedures.
  • Liaise directly with customers and project stakeholders where required.
Essential Requirements
  • Previous experience in electrical testing and commissioning within automation, material handling, intralogistics environment.
  • Strong understanding of electrical control systems and automated machinery.
  • Ability to read and interpret electrical drawings, schematics, and control panel documentation.
  • Experience fault‑finding and resolving issues using JIRA on automated equipment and controls systems.
