Gas Engineer Assistant

Locations:
Glasgow, Coatbridge, Airdrie, Motherwell, Wishaw, Bellshill. Salary: £28.2k per annum, increasing to £31.3k after successful completion of probation.

Start date:

September 2026.

• Support engineers on site and learn from them during gas service and mains repair activities.
• Excavate and dig on public and private highways, lay and repair gas pipes while working safely outdoors in a team environment.
• Participate in essential works to keep the gas supply running to millions of people year‑round, including standby and overtime for irregular hours.
• Maintain SGN vans and tools before and after each job to ensure equipment is ready and safe.

• Take initiative, be accountable, and continuously improve working methods.
• Remain calm in situations involving public interaction and adapt to changing circumstances.
• Comfortable with a rota that includes weekends and nights; ready to respond to incidents 24/7, 365.
• Clean‑shaven, pass a face‑fit test, and wear tight‑fitting dust masks and breathing apparatus as required for safety.
• Hold a valid UK driver’s licence.
• Based within a commutable distance of the listed locations, as required by operational response times.
• No prior experience required; comprehensive training and equipment will be provided.
