The Role

The post holder will provide an accessible, person centred effective school nursing service for vulnerable school aged children who have been identified as being at risk and requiring additional support. This will be achieved by working in partnership with children, young people, families, carers and partner agencies.

A continuous focus on prevention, early intervention and support will prevail and concentrate on the ten priority areas under overarching themes of vulnerable children and families, mental health and wellbeing, and risk taking behaviours.

The post holder will be responsible for a caseload and function as an autonomous practitioner by virtue of in-depth knowledge, expertise, experience and proficiency

In this key role, you will:
  • Assess and identify vulnerability within individual/family/community needs, provide person centred care and, together, plan, implement and evaluate programmes for health improvement which are evidence based and make full use of all resources using a multi-agency approach to improve the health of the school aged population.
  • Provide comments/suggestions regarding policy changes/plans affecting health and promote effective health improvement in school age children and young people within local communities.
  • Have an understanding of the determinants of health in order to promote the wider public health role of school nursing.
  • The post holder will contribute and participate in the development, implementation and completion of clinical governance processes including audits and participate in research that will ensure continuous improvements in school nursing practice.
  • The post holder must be fully compliant with the NMC Registration and other relevant NHS policy and guidance documents which support and maintain standards of professional practice for nurses.
What You'll Bring:
  • Registered Nurse with valid NMC Registration.
  • Educated to/working towards or operating at Degree Level
  • Further education/evidence of Continuous Professional Development in area of speciality including study days/courses/post graduate qualification.
  • Comprehensive knowledge of clinical guidelines and standards within the speciality / area of practice.
  • Specialist knowledge and experience of relevant conditions appropriate to areas of responsibility.
