Mortgage Field Services Inspector

Overview

FAR Inspections is seeking highly motivated independent contractors to perform residential occupancy verifications on behalf of mortgage lenders. The role offers full-time or supplemental income with a flexible schedule, based in Reno, NV. Prior mortgage inspection experience is not required; strong time management and deadline adherence are essential.

• Verify property occupancy.
• Report the general condition of the property via a mobile application.

Most inspections are exterior-only, with ~10% requiring interior photos after the property has gone vacant.

Inspectors are responsible for all assignments within their county and may split the county with another inspector when volume warrants.

• Complete most inspections in 5–6 minutes.
• Submit the inspection within 4 days of assignment.
• Report general property conditions and determine occupancy based on industry standards.
• Take 9+ photos of the property with brief comments.
• Enter a short form in the app.
• Spend extended periods driving while making numerous stops in the assigned territory.

• Computer with internet connection.
• Reliable vehicle (good gas mileage preferred; you pay your own gas).
• Smartphone (Android or iPhone).
• Printer.
• Pass a standard background check with a valid driver’s license.

This is a 1099 contractor position. Each inspection is paid at a flat rate that varies by county and volume. The role can earn the equivalent of $30–$40 per hour
. Depending on county, you may perform 20–500 inspections per month, working 2–30 hours per week. Lower‑volume counties offer higher rates; higher‑volume counties offer lower rates. Earnings increase as you establish yourself, gain availability, or cover a larger territory. Mileage is reimbursed only via the flat inspection fee; no additional mileage reimbursement is provided.
