Base Pay Range

Overview

The Trellis School is a K‑12 non‑public school serving children with autism based in Sparks, MD (Baltimore County). Our Autism Instructors work one‑on‑one with learners and receive extensive training and coaching in behavior management. The school's educational program is designed to build strong foundational communication, learner readiness, academic, social and play skills in young learners with a focus on using Verbal Behavior (VB).

Responsibilities
  • Provide support in physical management and implementation of learners' Behavior Intervention Plans, including but not limited to blocking and redirecting challenging behavior, holds, and management of seclusion events.
  • Complete necessary documentation for seclusion and physical restraint events in compliance with COMAR and MSDE guidelines.
  • Assist in implementing learners' individualized behavior, toileting, and feeding protocols.
  • Accurately complete daily behavior data tracking and input responsibilities.
  • Implement feedback and instructional recommendations made by school team (teacher, BCBA, program specialists).
  • Demonstrate positive work ethic by actively seeking supportive tasks, offering suggestions for program improvement, and receiving constructive feedback professionally.
  • Create and prepare instructional materials for learners as needed.
  • Participate in internal team meetings and high‑profile meetings for students.
  • Support general school procedures: arrival, lunch schedules, dismissal, cleaning tasks, field trips, etc.
  • Other duties as assigned.
Qualifications
  • High School Diploma required. Associate's/Bachelor's degree preferred.
  • Adaptability and flexibility – able to adapt to changes, manage competing demands, and handle frequent change, delays or unexpected events.
  • Dependability – consistently at work and on time, follows instructions, responds to management direction and seeks feedback for improvement.
  • Planning/organizing – detail oriented, prioritizes and plans work activities, and uses time efficiently.
  • Proficiency with technology – knowledge of Trellis specific web‑based data collection systems and Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint.
  • Self‑directed – able to work independently and take initiative without being urged.
  • Problem solving – identifies and resolves problems in a timely manner, gathers and analyzes information skillfully.
  • Multi‑tasking – able to work on multiple projects at one time.
  • Quality control – demonstrates accuracy and thoroughness, monitors own work to ensure quality, and applies feedback.
  • Safety and security – observes safety procedures and uses equipment properly.
  • Must attend all mandatory trainings.
  • Must be able to speak and read English. Ability to read and interpret documents related to Maryland State Curriculum, accounting, policy and procedures manuals, safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions. Ability to write routine reports, letters and emails as well as general correspondence. Speak effectively with special‑needs children and describe work needs.

  • Physical workload may require standing, walking, sitting, using hands, reaching, climbing stairs, balancing, stooping, crouching, crawling, speaking or hearing, tasting or smelling. May need to lift and/or move up to 100 pounds. Vision abilities include close, distance, color, peripheral, depth perception, and adjustment focusing.
  • Trellis requires staff to engage learners in goal‑directed activities throughout the day, including creating teaching activities, utilizing effective teaching procedures that maintain a positive learning environment and competing with maladaptive behaviors.

Physical Requirements

Physical requirements vary and are based on specific client assignments. You may be asked to push, pull, and lift up to 35 pounds and move quickly, per client needs. You must be able to sit on the floor, stoop, stand, walk, and run.
