This role is part of the Manufacturing/Operations organization for the Diagnostic Solutions Business Unit and reports directly to the Packaging Engineering Manager. You'll drive growth by developing and implementing innovative packaging solutions, achieving cost savings, and ensuring quality across a multi‑functional environment. Responsibilities include managing projects from concept to commercialization, collaborating with internal functional groups and external suppliers, and providing technical expertise across packaging applications.
PositionResponsibilities
- Handle project activities to achieve business objectives including budget, timing, and packaging performance.
- Provide status reports to management and key collaborators on a consistent cadence.
- Lead packaging projects covering package design, process development, cost reduction, manufacturing efficiency, and defect resolution.
- Contribute to conceptualization, initiation, development, and commercialization of packaging improvements and processes.
- Support ongoing production needs, ensuring package and product compatibility through performance testing.
- Assist in developing technical strategy and guidance to achieve departmental and organizational goals.
- Research and develop new processes and equipment for new packaging.
- Engage suppliers to eliminate process variables and maintain reliable flow of packaging materials.
- Collaborate with cross‑functional teams (R&D, Marketing, Procurement, Quality, Manufacturing, Planning, Finance) to solve manufacturing and design problems.
- Support root‑cause analysis activities for packaging‑related issues and implement corrective actions.
- Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal.
- Ability to work effectively across cultural differences with global manufacturing teams.

- Prioritize tasks based on business objectives and manage multiple projects simultaneously.

- BS degree in Package Engineering, Plastic Engineering, Plastic Technology or related field.
- 1‑5 years of packaging engineer experience in the healthcare, medical device manufacturing, or FDA‑regulated industry.
- Experience with packaging systems/materials such as extrusion and injection blow molding, injection molding, glass molding, bottle/cap configurations, laminated structures, folding cartons, corrugate, and labeling.
- Experience with liquid filling equipment, heat sealing, molding, thermoforming and/or sterilization processes.
- Experience with rapid prototyping, process and mold validations, equipment qualifications, material selection, corrective action, and vendor selection/qualification.
- Knowledge of tooling prints, part prints, inspection procedures, and SPC analysis.
- Willingness to learn and apply Six Sigma methodologies and DOE.
- Familiarity with GMP and ISO requirements.
- Proficiency in Solid Works, AutoCAD, Microsoft Office, MS Project, TOPS, and Visio.
- Ability to handle multiple priorities in a fast‑paced, regulated environment.
- Strong teamwork orientation and the ability to work independently.
Work Environment: BD prioritizes on‑site collaboration. Most roles require a minimum of 4 days in the office per week with additional flexibility. Remote or field‑based positions may have different arrangements specified in the posting.
Availability to work: M‑F 8:00‑17:00 PM. Preferred location:
Hunt Valley, MD.
Salary Range: $73,300.00 – $ USD Annual.
