Design Engineer III - Bridge Engineer
Job Location: Maryland Office - Hunt Valley, MD 21030
Salary Range: $50.00 - $55.00 Hourly
Job Overview: Wallace Montgomery is seeking an experienced Bridge Engineer to join our Hunt Valley, Maryland team. In this role, you will be a part of a multi‑disciplinary team developing bridge and structural construction documents for transportation‑related projects in Maryland, with a focus on Maryland Department of Transportation (MDOT) and other local municipalities. This role will also include functions such as assisting with and/or leading bridge safety inspections and supporting specialized analysis of overweight vehicle permits.
EssentialFunctions
- Prepare structure and bridge design calculations, plans, and estimates for bridge projects, including new designs, rehabilitations, and replacements.
- Assist with and/or lead NBIS‑compliant Bridge Safety Inspections.
- Perform specialized analyses of overweight truck permits to ensure extremely heavy vehicles can safely cross bridges and travel designated routes throughout Maryland.
- Conduct and review structural modeling and analysis using Micro Station, Open Bridge, Brass, LARS Bridge, MDX, and LEAP products.
- Collaborate with roadway, drainage, geotechnical, traffic, and environmental staff to deliver integrated project solutions.
- Support the development of construction documents and specifications.
- Mentor junior engineers and provide quality control/assurance efforts.
- May include supervision of designers and technicians of routine activities and projects.
- Bachelor’s degree in civil engineering from an ABET‑accredited program.
- Professional Engineer (PE) license in Maryland required.
- Minimum 5 years of experience in bridge design and/or inspection.
- Experience with MDOT bridge design guidelines and specifications, inspection procedures, and permit review processes strongly preferred.
- Training or certifications in bridge inspection:
- NHI‑130055 or NHI‑130056 (Safety Inspection of In‑Service Bridges)
- NHI‑130078 (Fracture Critical Inspection Techniques for Steel Bridges)
- NHI‑130087 (Inspection and Maintenance of Ancillary Highway Structures)
