Wallace Montgomery is seeking an experienced Bridge Engineer to join our Hunt Valley, Maryland team. In this role, you will be a part of a multi-disciplinary group developing bridge and structural plans for transportation related projects in Maryland, with a focus on Maryland Department of Transportation (MDOT) and other local municipalities. This role will also include functions like leading bridge safety inspections and supporting specialized analysis of overweight vehicle permits.
You will provide technical supervision and assist with management of projects, in order to work toward a project management role.
- Prepare and review structural design calculations, plans and estimates for bridge projects, including new designs, rehabilitations, and replacements.
- Lead NBIS-compliant Bridge Safety Inspections.
- Perform specialized analyses of overweight truck permits to ensure extremely heavy vehicles can safely cross bridges and travel designated routes throughout Maryland.
- Conduct and review structural modeling and analysis using Micro Station, Open Bridge, Brass, LARS Bridge, MDX, and LEAP products.
- Collaborate with roadway, drainage, geotechnical, traffic, and environmental staff to deliver integrated project solutions.
- Support the development of construction documents and specifications.
- Serve as Project Team Leaders by directing day to day activities of staff.
- Assist in coordination of subconsultant activities.
- Monitor project schedules and budgets and directly work with clients.
- Mentor junior engineers and provide quality control/assurance efforts.
- Bachelor’s degree in civil engineering from an ABET-accredited program.
- Professional Engineer (PE) license in Maryland required.
- 7-10 years of relevant bridge design and/or inspection experience.
- Experience with MDOT bridge design guidelines and specifications, inspection procedures, and permit review processes strongly preferred.

- NHI-130055 or NHI-130056 (Safety Inspection of In-Service Bridges)
- NHI-130078 (Fracture Critical Inspection Techniques for Steel Bridges)
- NHI-130087 (Inspection and Maintenance of Ancillary Highway Structures)
