Overview
Route Driver role at Park County District No 6. The job involves transporting students over scheduled routes and/or to/from special excursions in a timely manner; ensuring the vehicle is in safe operating condition; and ensuring safety of students during transport, loading and unloading from buses.
Salary: $19.40 - $31.40/hour

Essential Functions- Advises students and other passengers of appropriate behavior for the purpose of reinforcing regulations and maintaining passenger safety.
- Assesses incidents, complaints, accidents and/or potential emergency situations for the purpose of resolving and/or recommending a resolution to the situation.
- Assists students and other passengers for the purpose of providing safe loading and unloading from buses including both emergency situations and normal transport.
- Attends meetings, training, etc. for the purpose of maintaining skills and meeting the certificate requirements of a school bus driver.
- Cleans assigned vehicles, both interior and exterior, for the purpose of ensuring safety, appearance, and sanitation of vehicle.
- Conducts emergency evacuation drills for the purpose of ensuring efficiency of procedures and complying with mandated requirements.
- Discharges students only at authorized stops for the purpose of aligning with District policies and regulations and avoiding confusion.
- Drives school bus(es) or vans for the purpose of transporting passengers over scheduled routes to and from school and/or field trips in a safe and timely manner.
- Fuels assigned vehicle for the purpose of maintaining vehicle in a safe operating condition.
- Informs other school personnel, parents, etc. of events and/or practices (e.g. scheduled stops, established routes, route conditions) for the purpose of advising them of issues that may require action.
- Maintains confidentiality of all information concerning students, staff or parents/guardians for the purpose of protecting privacy and following District guidelines.
- Maintains personal availability for a varied schedule on snow days for the purpose of aiding District personnel in case of early school closing.
- Obeys all traffic laws and safety regulations for school buses for the purpose of finishing all routes/activity trips in a safe and timely manner.
- Operates two-way radio, constantly monitoring it, for the purpose of staying in communication with the Dispatcher and Department.
- Prepares documents and reports for the purpose of providing written support and/or conveying information (e.g. field trip reports, incident reports, inspections records, mileage logs, routing information, payroll information).
- Reports observations and incidents for the purpose of communicating information to appropriate personnel.
- Responds to inquiries for the purpose of providing information and/or direction.
- Supervises students and other passengers during transit for the purpose of maintaining safety and following District policy.
- Utilizes proper OSHA procedures when handling body fluids for the purpose of preserving driver and passenger health.
- Assists other personnel, as may be required, for the purpose of ensuring an efficient and effective work environment.
Minimum Qualifications Skills, Knowledge And Abilities
- SKILLS are required to perform multiple, technical tasks with potential need to upgrade skills to meet changing job conditions. Specific skill-based competencies include: adhering to safety practices; operating all school buses in the fleet (including Automatic Snow Chains), door controls, gauges, fuel pump, two-way radio, and maintaining accurate records.
- KNOWLEDGE required to perform basic math; understand written procedures; write routine documents; and understand multi-step written and oral instructions. Specific knowledge includes:
Wyoming rules and laws of the road; handling student discipline by approved procedures; troubleshooting mechanical problems; grammar and punctuation; safety practices and procedures. - ABILITY to schedule activities; collate data; operate job-related equipment; work with diverse groups; meet deadlines; and problem-solve with data and equipment. Strong communication with diverse groups and maintaining confidentiality are important.
- Responsibility includes working under limited supervision; leading/coordinating others; and operating within a defined budget. There is potential to significantly impact the organization s services.
Education
:
High school diploma or equivalent; job-related experience required.
Required Testing and Certificates and Licenses
:
Federal DOT Physical, Pre-employment Drug Screen, Random Drug/Alcohol Screening, CDL Type B Driver s License with PS Endorsement, Evidence of Insurability, CPR/First Aid Certificate (by assignment).
