The Job in a Nutshell: This role requires an outgoing personality and passion for sharing nutrition knowledge and inspiring people to act and achieve their health goals. You’ll wear many hats while working in a fast-paced retail setting, conducting classes, private coaching sessions, community outreach, and retail operations (e.g., customer service, stocking shelves, cleaning, etc.). As the store’s nutrition professional, you will act as an educational resource providing science-based nutrition education/training to the store Crew, our customers, and the community.

This position is a front-line contributor to the Natural Grocers mission and plays an integral role in helping Natural Grocers improve the health and wellbeing of our communities. Through providing free nutrition education and helping people understand why their food choices matter, you will play an important role in Natural Grocers' commitment to creating a sustainable, just, regenerative food system where humans, animals, and the earth can thrive.

Main Responsibilities:

• Acts as the nutrition education resource for customers, Crew, and community.
• Provides customer service on the floor in the vitamin aisles (assists customers with product purchasing, provides education resources, etc.).
• Performs retail operations such as maintaining customer literature files, managing the book department, stocking and facing products, assisting with cleaning and merchandising the vitamin department and store.
• Provides nutrition education through in-store classes, outreach programs, and regular training to Crew. Maintains the Crew Wellness Board, motivates and encourages Crew participation in nutrition challenges, and responds to questions and reviews summaries.
• Provides private, individual health coaching sessions.
• Builds community relationships through practitioner partnerships, guest presenters, and event collaborations.
• Seeks outreach opportunities to provide nutrition education and build brand awareness.
• Maintains continued education requirements by reading research and completing CE assignments.
• Assists management with organizing and executing company-wide events.
• Handles printing materials for classes, outreach, and coaching sessions, and places orders for nutrition education supplies.
• Trains Crew on promoting NHC services, in-store events, and promotions.
• Attends monthly meetings (webinars, regional, and sales calls).
• Acts as an event ambassador for in-store guest presenter classes during floor days.

Recipe for Success:

• A degree or certification in nutrition or a related field (e.g., dietetics, Bachelor of Science or Master of Biology, Biochemistry, Naturopathy).
• Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Excel, Outlook, etc.).
• Excellent public speaking and interpersonal skills.
• Confidence in delivering cooking demonstrations and nutrition classes.
• Ability to engage customers and promote events, services, and sales.
• Organizational skills, time management, and self-direction.
• Team player willing to accept feedback and grow professionally.
• Friendly, outgoing, approachable demeanor.
• Comfortable performing retail operations like stocking, facing, checking product expiration dates, and cleaning.

Maintaining Nutrition Knowledge: If continuing education is required for your degree/certification, fulfill those requirements. If not, maintain 16 CE hours (or two CE units) annually.
