Privacy Officer

Manages the HIPAA Program under the general direction of the Compliance Director.

Responsibilities:

• Manages the HIPAA Program under the general direction of the Compliance Director
• Maintains and develops HIPAA program policies, procedures, risk assessments, and risk mitigation strategies
• Responsible for overseeing all ongoing activities related to the privacy of patient health information in compliance with federal and state laws and Kootenai Health privacy and security practices
• Responds to inquiries and investigates complaints to facilitate patient rights under HIPAA
• Engages in the development and implementation of audit and monitoring plans and participates in the development and delivery of educational and outreach materials
• Responsible for reporting on program activities, maintaining investigation documentation and monitoring regulatory developments
• Performs other related duties as assigned
• Familiar with standard concepts, practices, and procedures within the field
• Relies on experience and judgment to plan and accomplish goals
• Regular and predictable attendance is an essential job function
• Competent to meet age specific needs of the unit assigned

Requirements and

Minimum Qualifications:

• Bachelor’s degree or Associate’s degree and Privacy Certification.
• Minimum of 5 years of experience in healthcare auditing, billing & coding, legal or regulatory, or other related experience in the healthcare field.
• Knowledge of the healthcare regulatory environment
• Knowledge of HIPAA requirements
• Demonstrated proficiency in project management methods and tools
• Demonstrated ability to work independently
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills, including ability to present findings and recommendations as required
• MS Office product knowledge (Word, Excel, Access, PowerPoint)
