Position: RN – NRT Float I
  • Schedule/Shift/Hours Part Time - Nights - 12 Hour Shifts

Nurse Resource Team (NRT) is a float resource department where nurses work in a variety of care areas hospital-wide including but not limited to the medical-surgical departments and behavioral health units. There are varying tiers within the department to advance into. Some nurses in the NRT are trained to work in specialty areas that include progressive care, emergency department, and Critical Care.

This department requires nurses to be efficient with time management and flexible in working with a variety of teams throughout the various units it supports. Nurses in the NRT participate in caring for a wide variety of patient populations and must maintain a high level of focus and flexibility to stay competent the specialties they work in.

Float Tiers: The Nursing-Resource Team has 4 different float tiers, which are determined based on experience and competencies.

Tier 1: Float to 1 North-Medical Nephrology, 2 East
- Ortho/Neuro Unit, 2 South
- General Surgery Unit, 3 East
- Neuro/Oncology/Gen Med Unit, 3 North
- Cardiac Medical Unit, and Behavioral Health.

Tier 2: Float to 1 North-Medical Nephrology, 2 East
- Ortho/Neuro Unit, 2 South
- General Surgery Unit, 3 East
- Neuro/Oncology/Gen Med Unit, 3 North
- Cardiac Medical Unit, Behavioral Health, and the Progressive Care Unit.

Tier 3: Float to 1 North-Medical Nephrology, 2 East
- Ortho/Neuro Unit, 2 South
- General Surgery Unit, 3 East
- Neuro/Oncology/Gen Med Unit, 3 North
- Cardiac Medical Unit, Behavioral Health, the Progressive Care Unit, and the Emergency Department.

Tier 4: Float to 1 North-Medical Nephrology, 2 East
- Ortho/Neuro Unit, 2 South
- General Surgery Unit, 3 East
- Neuro/Oncology/Gen Med Unit, 3 North
- Cardiac Medical Unit, Behavioral Health, the Progressive Care Unit, the Emergency Department and Critical Care.

Position Summary

This position is responsible for caring for a wide range of patient populations as a member of the Nursing Resource Team (NRT), maintaining a high level of adaptability and understanding in each unit. The NRT is a float resource department where nurses work in a variety of care areas hospital wide. This department requires nurses to be efficient with time management and flexible in working with a variety of teams throughout the various units it supports.

Typical float areas for a tier 1 float RN include, but are not limited to, medical-surgical, behavioral health, and addiction recovery units.

Responsibilities
  • Evaluates, plans, implements, and documents nursing care for an assigned patient population in a variety of care areas
  • Assists physician during examinations and procedures
  • Performs various patient tests and administers medications within the scope of practice of the registered nurse
  • Promotes patient's independence by establishing patient care goals and teaching patient and family to understand condition, medications, and self-care skills
  • Perform other related duties as assigned
  • Familiar with standards of care, practices, and procedures within the NRT tier 1 float cluster and units supported
  • Regular and predictable attendance is an essential job function
  • Competent to meet age specific needs of the unit assigned
Requirements and Minimum Qualifications
  • Graduate of a nationally accredited Nursing program required
  • Licensed RN with a minimum 3 years’ patient-facing RN experience at time of hire, ADN or diploma required; BSN or higher preferred
  • All non-BSN RN's with less than 3 years’ patient-facing RN experience at time of hire are required to be enrolled in a baccalaureate (or higher) degree program in nursing within 1 year of employment, with completion within 3 years of hire
  • State of Idaho Registered Nurse OR licensure pending as documented by temporary licensure OR current RN licensure from a state participating in the “multistate privilege to practice” compact with Idaho prior to start date
  • BLS required
  • Restraint C required during Kootenai Essentials
  • MOAB certification required during Kootenai Essentials
  • NIHSS required within 90 days of hire or before 3E orientation, whichever comes first
