Position Summary
Performs a variety of advanced clerical duties involved in preparing, maintaining, and processing patient, unit(s) and hospital data and records to include operating the organization's patient care information systems. Assists with basic patient care activities and performs administrative and clerical duties in support of an assigned clinical area.
Responsibilities- Monitors for cardiac arrhythmias via the centralized monitoring system
- Examines heartbeat patterns on electrocardiograph monitors, making note of irregular rhythms and monitoring changes in heartbeat
- Ensures that monitors are functioning properly and escalates concerns as they occur
- Notifies the unit, primary RN, and/or provider promptly when arrhythmias/alarms occur, documenting the notification of staff in the EMR
- Within CCU, ICU, and PCU, provides continual surveillance of cardiac rhythms for all monitored patients
- Responsible for the circulatory and respiratory functions of the heart‑lung machine, as defined by Service Line; may be involved in procurement of cardiothoracic donor organs for transplant
- Responsible for providing secretarial support for all employees within an assigned nursing unit
- Maintains and updates patients' records for a given unit
- Has knowledge of commonly‑used concepts, practices, and procedures within a particular field
- Relies on instructions and pre‑established guidelines to perform the functions of the job
- A certain degree of creativity and latitude is required
- Typically reports to a supervisor or manager
- Performs other related duties as assigned
- Familiar with standard concepts, practices, and procedures within the field
- Regular and predictable attendance is an essential job function
- Competent to meet age specific needs of the unit assigned
- 2 years' experience as a Health Unit Coordinator OR an equivalent combination of related education and experience required
- Completion of Basic EKG/Arrhythmia course within 3 months
- Demonstrated ability to interpret cardiac rhythms and arrhythmias required
- Working knowledge of medical terminology
- Must be able to lift and move up to 35 lbs
- Must be able to maintain a sitting position
- Must be able to maintain a standing position
- Typical equipment used in a clinical job
- Must be able to reach arms above or below shoulder height
