Position Summary
Responsible for providing exceptional patient care utilizing nursing process, medical plans, and organizational policies. Evaluates, plans, implements, and documents nursing care for an assigned patient population in Kootenai Day Surgery PACU.
Responsibilities
- Assesses, instructs and prepares patients prior to surgery
- Ensures informed consents are signed and correct
- Reviews and documents patients’ vital signs and medical history to ensure readiness for surgical procedure
- Inserts and maintains peripheral IVs
- Performs various patient tests and administers medications within the scope of practice of the registered nurse
- Assesses patient and monitors vital signs post-operatively to ensure safe recovery from anesthesia and surgical procedure in preparation for discharge
- Performs procedure-specific teaching to educate patients and family about expected recovery and care post-operatively
- Ensures safe and effective patient-centered care within peri-anesthesia services
- Cultivates positive working relationships with patients, visitors, staff, providers, and vendors
- Demonstrates accountability, professionalism, and flexibility
- Participates in ongoing committees and other educational programs to enhance patient care
- Performs a variety of tasks per needs of facility
- Performs other related duties as assigned
- Familiar with standard concepts, practices, and procedures within the field
- Relies on experience and judgment to plan and accomplish goals
- Regular and predictable attendance is an essential job function
- Competent to meet age specific needs of the unit assigned
Requirements and Minimum Qualifications
- Graduate of a nationally accredited Nursing program
- State of Idaho Registered Nurse or licensure pending as documented by temporary licensure OR current RN licensure from a state participating in the "multistate privilege to practice" compact with Idaho.
- BLS required
- ACLS and PALS required within 6 months
- Minimum 1 year experience in the peri-anesthesia setting preferred
- ASC experience preferred
Working Conditions
- Must be able to maintain a standing position
- Typical equipment used in a clinical job
- Must be able to stoop, crouch or bend
- Must be able to push, pull, or transfer heavy equipment
- Must be able to lift or move up to 35 lbs
