Lifeguard

Availability Requirement

Facility open 7 days a week. Requires flexibility to work occasional nights, weekends, and holidays as needed for business operations.

• Considerately and patiently enforce RJKCCC rules to provide a safe environment for all members, visitors, and employees. Cautions swimmers regarding unsafe areas and actions. Maintain order in swimming areas.
• Must analyze situations and adopt a quick and effective course of action; maintain constant vigilance of an assigned zone to identify signs of danger.
• Rescue swimmers in danger of drowning.
• Provide first aid, rescue breathing and CPR when needed.
• Inspect and maintain cleanliness of swimming pool areas, locker rooms, restrooms, trash cans, cleaning equipment, aquatic equipment storage areas, and other assigned areas.
• Maintain records and reports as assigned.
• May work with any aspect of aquatic programs and special events, as required.
• Communicate effectively with co‑workers and customers in person and over the phone.
• Carry out The Salvation Army mission in your actions and words during employment.
• Wear standard apparel as prescribed by the Aquatics Manager and exhibit a professional appearance at all times while on duty.
• Clock in wearing uniform 10 minutes prior to scheduled shift.
• Other tasks as required.

• Minimum age 15 years.
• Read, write, and communicate in English.
• Work varied shifts including early mornings, evenings, weekends, holidays, and split shifts.
• Experience working with the public.
• Demonstrate ability to relate positively and energetically with staff, clients, members, and customers. Be self‑motivated, work independently and in a team. Effective communication skills and positive engagement with the public, co‑workers, and supervisors.
• Prior experience as a lifeguard highly desirable.
• Maintain current certification in:
  • American Red Cross Lifeguard certification
  • American Red Cross Water Park Lifeguard certification within first 90 days of employment
  • American Red Cross CPR for the Professional Rescuer certification to include AED
  • American Red Cross Oxygen Administration certificate
  • American Red Cross Bloodborne Pathogens certification within 90 days of employment
• Meet all health and safety regulations as defined by the Health Department and TSA.
• Philosophy of education and child development consistent with the Center and TSA.
• Work with children, parents, and staff in a capacity of leadership, counseling, and education.

• Maintain minimum fitness level to accomplish:
  • 300‑yard swim in less than 15 minutes
  • Tread water for 2 minutes without use of hands
• Position requires proficient swimming ability and endurance. Perform proper application of rescue and first‑aid techniques, extract victims, lift and carry at least 40 lbs, sit, stand, walk, bend, stoop, jog, pull, push, balance, reach, and use fingers and hands.
• Perform tasks on standard office equipment such as keyboard.
• Be in good physical and mental health.
