Wellness Coach II

Position Summary

Join our team as a Wellness Coach II at The Salvation Army Southern California.

Your role will involve providing orientation to new members, assisting members with their workouts, and delivering personal training services.

• Provide excellent customer service to the community, ensuring all customers, clients, and members receive prompt and courteous assistance.
• Demonstrate strong communication skills and enjoy building relationships with members to help them meet wellness goals.
• Provide orientation to new members.
• Assist members during workouts with proper use of equipment, proper form, and safety guidelines.
• Perform wellness assessments.
• Deliver personal training to members who purchase additional services.
• May teach classes based on experience and specialties.
• Verify membership through the POS system.
• Provide information and answer questions about available programs.
• Ensure the wellness area is presentable; assist with cleaning and maintenance.
• Report equipment, wellness, and gym area problems to the Wellness Manager.
• Enforce all rules pertaining to the wellness and exercise areas consistently.
• Adhere to RJKCCC operations and all policy procedures adopted by Administration.
• Provide supervision when the Wellness Manager is not on site.
• Observe safety rules and regulations.
• Attend staff meetings as assigned.
• Maintain confidentiality.
• Perform other duties as assigned.

• Must be at least 18 years of age.
• High school diploma or GED equivalency.
• Current personal training certification from a nationally recognized organization (e.g., WITS, NSCA, ACE, AFAA) or equivalent education or experience.
• Ability to design high‑quality, up‑to‑date, scientifically sound, safe and effective wellness programs for diverse client goals.
• Prior personal training experience required.
• Uphold the scope and practice of wellness professionals and comply with all applicable laws.
• Preferred: degree in wellness, exercise science, athletic training, physical therapy, exercise physiology or related fields.
• Maintain confidentiality of client information.
• Maintain a drug‑free and alcohol‑free work environment.
• Computer experience helpful.
• Effective communication with clientele and staff.
• First Aid/CPR/AED certification within first 90 days of employment.
• Good physical and mental health.
• Demonstrate positive team leadership capabilities and supervision skills.
• Operate positively with staff, clients, members, and customers.
• Ability to work with children, parents, staff and diverse age groups in a leadership, counseling, and education capacity.
• Maintain a non‑judgmental attitude when working with customers, clients, members, and staff.
• Professional problem‑solving approach.
• Work independently with minimal supervision.
• Command of English and excellent verbal and written communication skills.
• Thrive in a team‑oriented environment; team player.
• Adaptability under fast‑paced pressures.
• Empathy and communication with low‑income and vulnerable people.

• Ability to sit, walk, stand, bend, squat, climb, kneel, and twist intermittently or continuously.
• Ability to grasp, push, pull objects, and reach overhead.
• Ability to lift and carry up to 40 lbs.
