Description

Responsible for rail car inspection and maintenance in accordance with FRA and AAR Regulations. Must re-rail cars, estimate damages at derailment sites, and prepare repair billing cards in compliance with AAR office manual. Identify AAR/FRA violations on railcars. Perform duties such as ensuring all safety and company guidelines are followed, reading and understanding blueprints, making car repairs in compliance with FRA & AAR rules, and keeping detailed repair records.

Capable of performing foreign car repairs and fleet car repairs. Operate forklifts and collaborate closely with other departments at derailment sites. Additional duties may be assigned as needed.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Ensure compliance with all federal requirements, company guidelines, and safety rules.
  • Read and understand blueprints.
  • Perform foreign car repairs and fleet car repairs.
  • Follow FRA & AAR rules during repairs.
  • Maintain accurate repair records.
  • Operate mobile cranes and wheel trucks.
  • Collaborate with other departments at derailment sites.
  • Perform any other duties as assigned.

Education and Experience

  • High school diploma or GED, or 3 to 6 months of relevant experience, or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Work environment includes exposure to outside weather, noise, fumes from gas, oil, and grease.
