IntroductionThe State of Connecticut, Department of Emergency Services and Public Protection (DESPP) is recruiting for a Maintenance Supervisor 1 (Automotive) to join their team in Colchester. This opportunity is for Agency employees.
Position Highlights- The schedule for this position is Monday-Friday, 8:00 AM-4:00 PM.
- DESPP maintains a fleet of over 2000 vehicles and operates 5 repair facilities that support the fleet.
- Schedules, assigns, oversees and reviews work of staff.
- Provides staff training and assistance.
- Prioritizes the daily workload.
- Parts procurement for all DESPP repair facilities.
- Ensures building maintenance conforms to OSHA standards.
- Enforces policy and procedure with DESPP Fleet staff.
- Maintains vehicle records in accordance with the Department of Motor Vehicles (DMV).

QualificationsMinimum Qualifications – General Experience
Five (5) years of experience in the trade area indicated by the parenthetical title.
Minimum Qualifications – Special Experience
Two (2) years of the General Experience must have included performing highly skilled duties in the trade area indicated by the parenthetical title.
Substitutions Allowed
Graduation from vocational or technical school may be substituted for one (1) year of the General Experience.
- Experience in automotive repair of police‑rated vehicles.
- Experience utilizing computer programs for automotive repair and vehicle diagnostics.
- Experience in automotive, heavy truck, heavy equipment, and small engine parts identification and procurement.
- Experience in training and reviewing the work of staff.
- Experience in scheduling and assigning work in an automotive repair field.
- Incumbents may be required to travel.
- Incumbents may be required to possess and retain appropriate current licenses, permits, and/or certifications.
- Must have adequate physical strength, stamina, agility, and visual and auditory acuity to perform duties.
- A physical examination may be required.
- May be required to lift moderate to heavy weights and be exposed to extreme weather conditions and risk of injury from equipment.
- May be required to complete an asbestos removal program and use protective equipment such as respirators and safety goggles.
