About the Audit Semi‑Senior role

Due to continued growth, we are seeking an ambitious Audit Semi‑Senior to join our expanding team in Colchester.

This role is ideal for an Audit Assistant looking to take the next step in their career and gain greater responsibility within a supportive and professional environment. Working closely with Audit Seniors, Managers and Partners, you will play a key role in delivering high-quality audit services to a diverse portfolio of clients.

You will gain exposure to all stages of the audit process, from planning and fieldwork through to completion, whilst developing your technical expertise, commercial awareness and client relationship skills.

Key responsibilities of an Audit Semi‑Senior will include:
  • Assist with the planning, execution and completion of audit assignments.
  • Perform audit fieldwork in accordance with firm methodology and auditing standards.
  • Identify key audit risks and assist in developing appropriate audit responses.
  • Test and evaluate internal controls, systems and financial information.
  • Investigate audit findings, anomalies and irregularities, escalating issues where appropriate.
  • Prepare accurate and well‑documented audit working papers.
  • Assist in drafting audit reports and completion documentation.
  • Develop an understanding of clients' businesses, industries and operating environments.
  • Provide practical recommendations to improve clients' systems, controls and processes.
  • Build positive working relationships with clients and colleagues.
  • Maintain an up‑to‑date knowledge of auditing standards, accounting principles and regulatory developments.
  • Manage workloads effectively to meet deadlines and exceed client expectations.
  • Contribute to the commercial success of the department through efficient delivery of assignments and excellent client service.
  • Undertake any other duties reasonably requested by Partners, Managers or clients.
About you

We are looking for candidates with the following skills and experience:

Qualifications and Experience
  • At least 12 months' experience within an external audit environment.
  • Previous experience working within an accountancy practice.
  • Experience of audit testing and preparation of audit working papers.
  • Experience using audit and accounts production software.
Technical Skills
  • Good understanding of auditing standards and accounting principles.
  • Good knowledge of UK financial reporting requirements, including FRS 102.
  • Strong IT skills, particularly Microsoft Excel.
  • Ability to analyse financial information and identify key risks.

  • Strong organisational skills and the ability to manage multiple assignments simultaneously.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • A proactive approach to problem‑solving.
  • High attention to detail and commitment to quality.
  • Ability to work effectively both independently and as part of a team.

  • Takes ownership of responsibilities whilst recognising when support is required.
