Learning Support & Intervention Practitioner - Secondary PRU
An inclusive secondary Pupil Referral Unit is seeking to appoint a dedicated and passionate Learning Support & Intervention Practitioner to join their team. This hybrid role combines the support-focused responsibilities of a Learning Support Assistant (LSA) with the instructional duties of a Tutor, providing a unique opportunity to work with some of the most vulnerable learners.
The successful candidate will deliver high-quality education and holistic support, both 1:1 and in small groups, on-site and off-site, helping students overcome barriers to learning, build confidence, and reach their full potential academically, socially, and emotionally.
Role Details
Hours:
Monday-Thursday 8:30am-4:30pm, Friday 8:30am-4:00pm (37 hours per week, term-time only)

12-week Temp to Fixed Term, with the possibility to extend until the end of the Summer Term 2026
Salary: £100-£120 per day, depending on experience
Essential:
Must hold a valid UK driving licence and have access to a vehicle with business insurance, as the role requires off-site travel.
Key Responsibilities
Deliver individualised learning programmes under the guidance of teaching staff and the SENCo
Support students with SEMH, SEND, trauma-related challenges, or previous adverse experiences
Provide 1:1 and small group tuition, both on and off-site
Develop engaging teaching and learning activities that nurture self-belief, emotional literacy, and resilience
Assist in curriculum development, student engagement initiatives, and parent/carer support
Maintain accurate records, track progress, and provide written and verbal feedback
Contribute to a safe, respectful, and inclusive learning environment
Cover lessons or duties as needed and participate in staff development, training, and relevant events
Person Specification
The ideal candidate will have:
Experience in secondary education, ideally with students in alternative or specialist provision
Knowledge of trauma-perceptive practice (TPP) and an understanding of the impact of adversity on child development
Experience supporting students with SEMH and SEND
Strong behaviour management skills and a calm, reflective approach
Ability to plan and deliver engaging learning experiences in formal or informal settings
Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, including working with parents, carers, and multi-agency teams
Strong ICT and administrative skills
Flexibility, resilience, and a commitment to safeguarding
Desirable:
Experience in mentoring, coaching, or leading activities; A-Level or equivalent in English and Maths.
