Compass Community School is a small specialist SEND school based in Little Clacton, Essex, providing therapeutic education for students aged 11‑17. Our focus is on social, emotional and mental health needs, supported by extensive therapeutic training and a collaborative, student‑centred approach.
RoleWe are looking for an English specialist to plan, deliver and supervise a curriculum that spans Entry Level, Functional Skills, Key Stage 3 and GCSE. The role requires building nurturing relationships with students, managing complex behaviours, and contributing to the development of both the academic and extra‑curricular programme.
Responsibilities- Plan and deliver engaging English lessons that meet the needs of a diverse student body.
- Build secure, positive relationships with pupils and keep communication with parents, caregivers and multi‑agency teams.
- Use therapeutic and attachment‑informed approaches to support student well‑being and learning.
- Collaborate with fellow teachers and support staff to shape the curriculum and extracurricular activities.
- Maintain accurate and confidential records, including lesson plans and pupil progress.
- Qualified teacher with a strong background in English, and experience working with SEND students.
- Experience with curriculum planning from Entry Level to GCSE, including functional skills.
- Excellent communication, organisational and interpersonal skills.
- Willingness to undertake Enhanced DBS checks and other safeguarding requirements.
- Staff laptop and mobile phone.
