About the School

CCS Pembroke Park is a small, specialist SEND school offering purposeful learning to students aged 6‑16. We provide education in a therapeutic environment for young people who have previously struggled in mainstream provision. Our location in rural Essex features a purpose‑built site with sensory and therapy spaces, subject facilities, and outdoor areas for recreation and PE.

Personal Specification
  • Level 2 literacy and numeracy (equivalent to GCSE English and Maths at Grade C or above)
  • Substantial experience working as a teaching assistant
  • Evidence of contributing to learning, such as leading interventions or supporting behaviour
  • Preferable Level 4 (or equivalent) qualification for Higher Level Teaching Assistants issued by a recognised awarding body
  • Experience working with children who have Social, Emotional and Mental Health needs (SEMH) and co‑existing SEND such as Autism, ADHD, communication difficulties, trauma or adverse childhood experiences
The Role

HLTAs support children with complex and challenging behaviours. They must be resilient, persistent, solution‑focused, and adaptable, wearing many hats to meet the children’s needs.

Key Responsibilities
  • Support teachers in the classroom
  • Work with children 1:1 or in small groups
  • Manage classroom resources
  • Take children on trips and visits
  • Interact socially with children during lunch and breaks
  • Manage heightened behaviours and ensure children’s safety
  • Play board games, conduct science experiments and create displays
  • Celebrate success and reflect on difficult periods
  • Participate in therapy sessions and contribute to decision‑making about curriculum and extra‑curricular activities
