We are working with a welcoming and inclusive Secondary School in Colchester that is seeking a dedicated and resilient Learning Support Assistant to join its team. This school is committed to supporting students both academically and emotionally, providing targeted interventions and pastoral support to help learners overcome barriers to education.
Job Overview:
Full-time, Monday - Friday Learning Support Assistant role. Provide 1:1 and small group support for students with behavioural, emotional and social needs. Build positive and trusting relationships with students to encourage engagement and progress. Support students in lessons, helping them access the curriculum and remain focused on learning. Use positive behaviour management strategies to de-escalate challenging situations. Work closely with teachers, pastoral staff and the SEN team to implement support plans.
Monitor student progress, wellbeing and behaviour, providing feedback to relevant staff. Encourage positive social interactions, resilience and self-confidence. Promote a safe, inclusive and supportive learning environment. This Learning Support Assistant role in Colchester offers a fantastic opportunity for individuals interested in education, youth work, psychology, social care or pastoral support. You will play a vital role in helping students overcome challenges, develop confidence and achieve positive outcomes both inside and outside the classroom.
What We're Looking For:
Experience working with children or young people, particularly those with behavioural, SEMH or additional support needs. Strong behaviour management and relationship-building skills. A calm, patient and resilient approach to supporting students. Excellent communication and interpersonal skills. Ability to work effectively as part of a team and independently when required. A genuine passion for supporting vulnerable young people. Understanding of safeguarding and child protection procedures.
