Technician – Automotive

In this role you will support high-quality teaching, learning and assessment by providing expert technical instruction, demonstration and practical support within the curriculum area. The postholder will play a key role in preparing and maintaining safe, well-resourced and industry-standard learning environments, enabling learners to develop the practical skills, knowledge, confidence and professional behaviours required for progression, employment and future success. The role also contributes to the effective day‑to‑day operation of the provision through strong teamwork, high standards, responsive support for staff and students, and a clear commitment to safeguarding, inclusion and health and safety.

Full time, Colchester Campus

About the role:
  • Prepare materials and equipment as needed by teaching staff and students in a timely, effective and efficient manner.
  • Maintain an effective and timely stock control system of materials and consumables including the ordering of stock/materials/equipment.
  • Effectively and professionally liaise with teaching staff to ensure students’ needs are met within practical delivery sessions.
  • Maintain workshops, equipment and tools to the highest standards ensuring statutory requirements are met.
  • Contribute to and or oversee practical, community or college projects ensuring high standards of work are maintained at all times.
  • Ensure good health and safety practices by adhering to local area codes of practices and all other related College Health & Safety policies, including completion of Portable Appliance Testing on electrical equipment.
Essential

Experience:
  • Recent or relevant experience in the motor vehicle industry
  • Experience maintaining automotive tools, equipment and workshop environments
  • Knowledge of current automotive technologies and repair practices
  • Understanding of industry legislation and safety standards
Essential

Qualifications:
  • Level 3 qualification in Motor Vehicle Maintenance & Repair (or equivalent) or equivalant industry experience
  • Minimum of Level 2 qualification in English and Mathematics GCSE 4+ or C and above / CSE Level 1 / O-Level C or above / Level 2 Adult Numeracy or Literacy or equivalent
