Learning Support Assistant (LSA) – SEN Support

Location: Colchester, Essex

Start Date: September 2026

Contract: Full-Time, Term Time Only

Salary: Competitive, dependent on experience

About the Role

We are seeking a caring, dedicated, and enthusiastic Learning Support Assistant (LSA) to join a welcoming and inclusive mainstream primary school in Colchester from September 2026.

This rewarding role will involve providing support to pupils with Special Educational Needs (SEN), both on a 1:1 basis and in small groups, helping them to access learning, develop confidence, and achieve their full potential within the classroom.

The successful candidate will work closely with class teachers, the SENCO, and other professionals to deliver tailored support for children with a range of additional needs, including Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD), ADHD, communication needs, and social, emotional, and mental health needs.

Key Responsibilities
  • Provide dedicated support for pupils with SEN within the classroom.
  • Deliver 1:1 and small group interventions.
  • Support pupils' academic, social, and emotional development.
  • Assist with the implementation of EHCP targets and personalised learning plans.
  • Promote positive behaviour and emotional regulation strategies.
  • Work collaboratively with teachers, SENCOs, parents, and external agencies.
  • Encourage independence, confidence, and inclusion throughout the school day.
  • Help create a safe, nurturing, and engaging learning environment.
The Ideal Candidate Will Have
  • Experience working with children with SEN in a school, childcare, or similar setting.
  • A patient, caring, and resilient approach.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
  • The ability to build positive relationships with pupils and staff.
  • A genuine passion for supporting children to achieve their best.
  • Relevant qualifications or SEN training (desirable but not essential).
  • An Enhanced DBS check on the Update Service or willingness to obtain one.
