Utility Surveyor

Permanent

Role Specification

You will support Surveying Managers and Project Managers across diverse survey projects, including topographic, utility, laser scanning, and data processing tasks. You will plan and execute jobs of various sizes, adapt to challenges, and raise issues when needed. Strong communication skills are essential for briefing teams and liaising with clients.

Projects span a variety of sectors. A full driving licence, flexibility, travel and working outdoors in all conditions are essential.

Key Responsibilities
  • Undertake utility or topographical surveys (depending on skillset)
  • Manhole lifting and assisting with observations and measurements
  • Locate utilities via electromagnetic locators and ground penetrating radar
  • Total station and GPS/GNSS observations
  • Create utility survey drawings and reports
  • Produce CAD drawings from survey data
  • Post‑process GPR data
  • Resolve any unexpected technical difficulties that may arise
  • Mentor and train less experienced team members as required
  • Manage and maintain survey equipment
  • Assist in the development of the survey department
  • Adhere to company manuals and processes
  • Ensure QA/QC compliance
Other Accountabilities
  • Fully aware of and actively complying with company policies and procedures relevant to responsibilities
  • Keep equipment and work area clean and tidy as far as reasonably possible
  • Perform any other reasonable duties directed by line management
  • Initiate continuous improvement in own areas of responsibility and provide feedback on performance
  • Maintain a positive and proactive attitude, respecting fellow team members
  • Play an active role in the leadership of the business

Person Specification
  • Previous experience working as a Utility Surveyor (minimum 2 years)
  • Experience carrying out topographical surveys (not a necessity)
  • Experience with GPR and electromagnetic locating techniques
  • Suitable qualification in a surveying related discipline advantageous
  • Experience using CAD software
  • Understanding of PAS
    128 Standards
  • Full UK driving licence
