Help Shape Good Governance Across the Council

Are you passionate about integrity, accountability and making a real difference in public services?

We're looking for an enthusiastic and professional Governance Officer to join our Governance Team. This is an exciting opportunity to play a key role in supporting the Council's governance arrangements, helping to manage risk, prevent fraud, support investigations and strengthen decision-making across the organisation.

Working across a wide range of services, you'll help ensure the Council operates effectively, transparently and in the best interests of residents.

About the Role

As Governance Officer, you will:

  • Lead and support the Council's anti-fraud and corruption activities.
  • Co-ordinate the National Fraud Initiative and fraud prevention programmes.
  • Support whistleblowing arrangements and fraud self-assessments.
  • Assist with governance investigations, including complaints relating to the Councillor Code of Conduct.
  • Support internal audit reviews and improvement actions.
  • Help services identify, assess and manage risks.
  • Assist with the development, implementation and review of governance policies and procedures.
  • Produce reports, performance information and governance updates for managers and Members.
  • Support wider governance projects and organisational improvement initiatives.

About You

We're looking for someone who is:

  • Organised, analytical and detail focused.
  • Confident communicating with a wide range of people.
  • Able to interpret information and provide practical solutions.
  • Comfortable handling sensitive and confidential matters.
  • Committed to high ethical standards and continuous improvement.

You will ideally have:

  • Experience in governance, compliance, audit, risk management, fraud prevention or a related field.
  • Strong report writing and presentation skills.
  • Knowledge of local government governance principles (desirable).
  • A relevant qualification or willingness to work towards one
